I found a poem when I was looking for one of the weekly poems. It's John Masefield's " Christmas Eve at Sea" from his Saltwater ballads collection. I think it would be a nice addition. I may even manage a seaman's accent, although being female it might not work so well :)

There is a set of short Christmas stories by Ruth Sawyer, This Way to Christmas (essentially one person is hearing many different stories). I found a text with just one of the stories, but with none of the pre-dialogue between the characters hearing the story. So essentially, my question is if I can do just this text that I found.

Here's the text whole segment from the collection
http://digital.library.upenn.edu/women/sawyer/christmas/chapter-VIII.html

and here's the story alone

Are you looking for just poems and stories or can one do essays about the holiday as well. I would like to do the Introduction to

Christmas in Ritual and Tradition, Christian and Pagan

It goes over most of the origins of some fo the holidays celebrated during this time of year which might be interesting to some people. Take a look for yourself and see what you think.

I have read the story "Christmas Every Day" to my children every Christmas for I don't know how long. It is not on the Gutenberg Project. However, it is listed on this website www.gonzaga.edu/faculty/campbell/wdh/xmaseday.html
as well as others on the Internet. I wanted to check with you on copyright issues before I turned it in. I believe that the date on the story is 1886 and it was published in St. Nicholas Magazine. Thanks, Susan (Mme Denney)

Very sorry, everybody, for being gone for so long without notice. Work stuff has been overwhelming me, but I hope to have gotten the better of it for now.

I'm back, and I've changed the settings so that I'll be notified whenever anyone posts in this thread or sends me a private message. I'll jump in and try to get everything updated now, and we should still be on target to have it ready to catalog by the 1st of November.

Yes, Mme Denney, your story will be just fine. I think we can take the death of the author in 1920 as proof that his story is public domain.

Niddhogg, essays are perfectly welcome, and will make a lovely addition to the story.

fish13, you are welcome to read the story by itself if that is what you prefer.

Dan Threetrees, thank you for your story, and also for the pm reminding me that I had neglected this thread!

I'll get the first post updated now.

I wouldn't want Matt to feel left out, so here's the Christmas Bible stories from his book to include in the collection:

The Nativity of Christ
The Offerings of the Wise Men
The Flight into Egypt
The Baptism of the Lord
