I just bought a new mic... I'm guessing it's either not very good (at all apparently), or it's broken... I've put everything in the max volume already and it's still fairly low... I've boosted the mic and then the volume does go higher but it also makes some noise... :(

Amy - PL OK on your version. :)

Liliana - depending on how much noise the microphone picks up, you can remove it using Audacity's Noise Removal. Here's a link: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Noisecleaning_With_Pics

I hear ringing, and there's no one there...

Hi Liliana

Is it a USB microphone? If you are using a microphone plugged into the audio in jack on your computer you will most likely get both noise and low output. If you want to use a non-USB microphone and still achieve good sound quality you really need a mixer as well. A USB microphone is a cheaper - and easier - option. I believe that is what most experienced LV readers use.

I wish you all the best in finding a solution to the problem. There is nothing more frustrating than putting your heart and soul into a recording and having it sound like the cat scratching at the door.

Cheers

Algy

I think Ive fixed the problem by both boosting the microphone and using noise reduction of my audio drivers. I think it sounds fairly good now, with low noise and everything, I will upload tonight and see :)

Ok, here is my second attempt... I hope the volume is ok now, but if I have to I can increase it more. I hope it's good now thought because if I have to increase it more I think I'll have to much distortion to my voice...

Volume is great!

I did hear spots , more towards the beginning of the poem, where you have air directly hitting the microphone, causing distortion (that woosh sound like on a cell phone in the wind). In future recordings, you can put your mouth to the side of the microphone (or above/below it, if it's a headset microphone) so that the air goes past the mic instead of hitting it directly.

You're good to go. PL OK!

Loved it!

1:20 - read "to the ringing and the chiming" should be "rhyming"
3:05 - read "toiling, toiling, toiling" should be "tolling, tolling, tolling"
3:22 - read "and their king it is who rolls" should be "tolls"
4:16 - read "to the toiling of the bells" should be "tolling"

Mike -

0:00 - title is "THE Bells" (you said just "Bells")

1:40 - in a mad expostulation (you said "expolusion" or something like that) - up to you if you want to fix this.

Take 2:
http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/tg/bells_poe_dl.mp3
(new time 4:41)
The twanging and clanging as well as the jangling and wrangling were bad enough, but with all that voluminous euphony and rolling and tolling it was hard to read straight. :P

I've only just joined Librivox, I've done the entry test and been passed OK, but would like to try something fairly moderate in length for real - may I do The Bells?
