Well, I thoroughly enjoyed that. Fastest hour-long chapter I've ever read. Though I disagree rather violently with some of the author's opinions. He claims that "...when there is a fugue or other complicated contrapuntal work on the program of a pianoforte recital, the average listener is apt to find it dry and uninteresting." Bach, dry and uninteresting??? Please! Who could possibly be MORE interesting than Bach?

And "None the less is it true that Bach appeals more strongly to the scientific musician than to the music-lover who seeks in music a secondary meaning—love, passion, grief; the mood awakened by the contemplation of a forest landscape with its murmuring foliage, a boundless prairie, or the unquiet sea."

Ok, I'm the "scientific musician" then. I hate Romantic era's mushy, overwrought, program music. I don't want a secondary emotional "meaning" in my music!

Anyway, that was fun :)
Glad you enjoyed it! I guess that qualifies me as a "scientific musician" as well.

Enjoy Tom Swift? Perhaps you would enjoy a book about him meeting up with some Diamond Makers
Or perhaps you'd rather talk about music with children.

Chapter name: Chapter 2: Bach's Service to Music.
Excellent intro and disclaimer at beginning of chapter.

2. No long silences need editing out--none appear. Positive comment: **EXQUISITE** phrasing and perfect pause length between sentences/thoughts.

3. Absolutely no serious repeats or stumbles. Reading is extremely fluent.

4. No excessive background noise. Recording quality is excellent.

5. Volume is excellent. Extremely comfortable listening either with headphones or via speakers.

6. The appropriate ten seconds of silence appears at the end of this 53-minute recording.

Additional comments: This recording is of exceptional quality. The reader's ability to pronounce German and music-specific words flawlessly is a tremendous asset. Piano illustrations of specific points within the text rendered the work much more comprehensible than it would have been, had these illustrations simply been omitted.

Proof-listening this chapter was an absolute joy!!!

Greetings Patrick,
Thank you for offering to promote me to DPL. However, being new to this venue, I believe I need to learn to "walk" before I can "run". I still haven't gotten the nack of posting PL comments in the correct locations. So--"baby steps" first, then when I finally get posting in the correct project threads right, then I can consider moving up the proverbial ladder. (HEY NOW--DOES THAT MOVE UP COME WITH AN INCREASE IN SALARY???!!! Just kidding! :-) :-) :-) **wink wink**. I'll try my hand at Chapter 6. Obligations tomorrow but I'll have it PL'd by weekend's end. :D

FABULOUS. . . I just did.
Now--I hope I posted my critique in the correct location. I posted within the project thread as instructed, but I'm not sure if there might be a sub-thread within that thread, since I did not see any other comments there.

Patrick,
I wanted to ask one of the admins where to post notes, but I think they were tiring of having to hold my hand on so many levels as I try to figure my way around the forums. . . All I can tell you is that I posted them within the project thread of the book. Where it says "project thread", I replied under Chapter 6. The only instructions I see for posting PL notes is to post within the project thread. I know the instructions have to be more specific than that. . . Is there a series of words, a link, title I can look for?

Kim :)
