Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874-1942)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/anne-of-green-gables-dramatic-reading-by-lucy-maud-montgomery/

Volunteers outside the USA: L.M. Montgomery died in 1942. Her work is still protected by copyright in places, like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years.
Red-haired Anne Shirley, the orphan girl mistakenly sent to live with Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, has been one of the world's most beloved characters since the publication of Anne of Green Gables in 1908. In this dramatic reading, Librivox readers tell the story of Anne's adventures as she grows up on Prince Edward Island.(Summary by wildemoose)
  1. Is there a deadline?

We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim (or by the target completion date, whatever is sooner). Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it’ll go back to the pool. There’s no shame in this; we’re all volunteers and things happen. The target completion date for this project is 01 December 2011.
  2. How to claim a part, and 'how it all works' here

To find a role to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are “up for grabs.” Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which role you’d like to read. Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  3. New to recording?

Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/45

Please read only from the GoogleDocs linked in the Magic Window. If you have difficulty accessing the GoogleDocs, please PM me.
  5. Please claim roles (the numbers in the first column below)! Please note: All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. When you submit your recording, you will be placing your recording in the public domain as well.

If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Awesome. I may not be able to fill in the MW until I get home this evening, but readers should know that Anne/Narrator, Matthew, Marilla, and Gilbert Blythe are already claimed. Other than that, if you know the characters, feel free to claim away!

OK, MW is set up. Do you have a DPL? Or should we advertise for one?

Thanks, Elizabeth! I'd like to advertise for one since Anne and the Narrator (both me) have so much to say and I can't effectively DPL myself.

The character names are up in the MW--I'll put in the details and the Google Docs links tonight.

I would like to have a stab at the Stationmaster, but I am resident in the United Kingdom, will that cause a problem?

Legally you can not download this book. We have advised against people reading works that are not PD in their country.

Thanks!

Hi - can I ask a really dumb question?
I live in the UK but a my work means I travel to Asia quite a bit

I could very easily download the book from there and prove it was done at that time (passport stamps against file download stamp)
(I realise too that it proves nothing but there we are!)

So, could I (he asked with trepidation) volunteer for a role in a book such as this which is still copyright in Europe?

Please, I don't want to cause any problems or legal difficulties, and "sod off, Paul" is a reasonable response!

I merely wanted to ask (Yes, I AM new!)

:)

Amy, absolutely!

Paul, I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your question. You'd have to research the copyright law in whatever country you'll be going to. It's my understanding that as long as you're obeying copyright law in the country you happen to be in at the time, you should be fine, but I suggest posting this question in the Need Advice forum where one of the copyright experts will be more likely to see it.

I'm so glad to see this project! "Anne of Green Gables" was one of the LibriVox books I listened to before I joined here!

May I do Ruby Gillis (Section 14)? :)

Just a note, I've assigned some of the smaller male roles to also read the role of "Boys" in Chapter 36. I have also left that open as a separate role in case anyone wants to lend their voice to the chorus. (Female voices are welcome too, of course.) I think the more we get, the better it will sound.
