Question Marks in the Place of Foreign Characters

I works much better then it did, but when I went to check it on some other threads besides the Finnish poem that I linked to in the first post it didn't do so well.

The Extraordinary Adventures of Arsene Lupin, Gentleman-Burglar when written with an accent over the first e in Arsene looks like [i with 2 dots, upside down question mark, one-half symbol]. Is that clear? Hope you can figure out what the problem is!

Also I noticed that this one

was fine yesterday but now has a capitol A with a squiggle on top and a copyright symbol where the 'e' in 'passe' is.

Thanks Fae, I see that it's not only with the "e", there are problems with the accentuated "a", apostrophes and quotation marks as well.

There doesn't seem to be any problem with the accents in Finnish or Irish.

It took me a while to figure out what you meant by accents in Finnish, since I was not aware we had those, heh. But then you must mean ? and ? , am I right?

I don't want to knitpick or go too offtopic, but I just had to say that those are not accented a and o letters. They are normal letters of their own in our alphabet.

That's what I meant. I didn't know they were letters of their own in Finnish. But, what do I know? Thanks for the info!

The Web server now declares all its Web pages to be in iso-8859-1
(character encoding), which was changed from utf-8 in the past few days.

So I'm wondering if Firefox is restricting you based on this new
declaration. Try changing the encoding in Firefox to utf-8
View [menu] > Character Encoding > Unicode (UTF-8)
to see if that restores your diacritical key strokes. I don't mean
this as a permanent solution, but as a troubleshooting test to
identify the reason for your problem.

The forum Web pages are declared
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
but use XHTML tag structure in some places, resulting in invalid HTML.

Oh my goodness, now my Chinese characters have gone too!

Man alive. You would not believe how many hours it took to enter all that script.

earthcalling = very unhappy.

I'll try and recover them, but am not hopeful.

Hey David, don't go hang yourself yet.
If you are on the Chinese pages (I checked this on Vol. 2) I was able to see your Chinese characters by selecting view -> encoding -> Unicode (UTF-8 ). I'm sure its similar in other browsers. But, at least it is all there is one form or another.

Signature should show this 雲山 as before, not the unicode "&# 38642; &# 23665;"
