A little love poem to start the new year.

As usual, each week a poem is chosen to be recorded by as many Librivox volunteers as possible! Have fun!

I do not love Thee

by Caroline Elizabeth Sarah Norton. 1808?1876

I do not love thee!?no! I do not love thee!
And yet when thou art absent I am sad;
And envy even the bright blue sky above thee,
Whose quiet stars may see thee and be glad.

I do not love thee!?yet, I know not why,
Whate'er thou dost seems still well done, to me:
And often in my solitude I sigh
That those I do love are not more like thee!

I do not love thee!?yet, when thou art gone,
I hate the sound (though those who speak be dear)
Which breaks the lingering echo of the tone
Thy voice of music leaves upon my ear.

I do not love thee!?yet thy speaking eyes,
With their deep, bright, and most expressive blue,
Between me and the midnight heaven arise,
Oftener than any eyes I ever knew.

I know I do not love thee! yet, alas!
Others will scarcely trust my candid heart;
And oft I catch them smiling as they pass,
Because they see me gazing where thou art.

Thank you everyone: I've been through all the recordings received so far. None were read too fast; all *very* well expressed ... love poems bring out the best in people, obviously.

I had no trouble with volume; some slight variation, but no-one forced me to listen at top volume on my headphones.

Frank, there was an odd string of characters in the Comment section in your mp3 file: lots of hex numbers, plus "iTunSMPB" I removed them, just leaving your "Recorded by ..". Tell me if you need them put back for some reason.

Annie, my system generates too much noise in my headphones to be able to judge yours well. Can someone else have a listen to this file, please?

Joy, your first: that was fine, with very good speed and timing.

Kayvan and Katharine, both very good, with good timing and expression

Jen, your first, too: very good timing and expression. Did you use noise reduction? There's a slight blurring on the sound, specially noticeable at the end of the penultimate verse. It's fine as it is, but you might like to re-record.

Stefan, that was humorous and well expressed.

I have been interested in the copyfight and releasing content to the commons for some time. When AKMA spearheaded recording a distributed readin of Lawrence Lessig's Free Culture, I thought, "I can do that", but I let the opportunity slip past. Fast forward a couple of years. I have released most of my album of original folk music under a creative commons license on ezfolk.com at http://www.ezfolk.com/audio/bands/600/ .

I have been following the progress of librivox since it started. With the new year, I resolved to get off my procratinator and actually contribute to the project and the community.
