Greetings Librivoxers

An ex Librivox reader here who kinda misses hanging around the Librivox forum and wishes he had more time to do so.
Anyways I comes to beg the help of the Librivoxers to push an event called 42day. It's an incredibly nerdy celebration being launched this Sunday (29th August) as this Sunday will be 42 days until 42day. I'm asking everyone to tweet, blog, status update or whatever about it to try and raise the profile of the event so everyone all over the world will join in.
Here's the press release to give you some idea of what it's about:

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy has this to say about 42 Day: it is the nerdiest
celebration ever postulated by the ape-like beings of the third planet from a small,
unregarded yellow sun in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the
western spiral arm of the galaxy.

As every hyper intelligent pan-dimensional being knows, 42 is the answer to the
ultimate question of Life, the Universe, and Everything. This number has become
inextricably entangled with the lives of the ape-descendents of Earth, which was,
after all, built in a failed attempt to find the ultimate question. Although the inhabitants
of Earth can’t tell you the question, they can tell you that the 10th of October 2010 will
be a very special day. The significance of this date hinges on a rather contrived little
hop, skip, and jump around the mathematics of it all. The date can be, and often is,
written as 10/10/10, even though the Earthlings are so contrary that they won’t even
all agree on which way round the day and the month should be. Now this is where it
gets excessively nerdy: 101010 is the number 42 in binary.

So on the 10th of October, froods all over the planet will be celebrating 42 day with
bus trips, cakes, games of Scrabble, and possibly the odd Pan Galactic Gargle
Blaster.

Many thanks folks.
All tweets, blogs and mentions gratefully accepted.
If anyone is doing anything for 42day please let me know and I'll post it on the website http://fortytwoday.com/

Hiya David and Kara btw, good to see ya again.
I shall try not be so much of a stranger but I've discovered time and again the folly of making promises I don't know whether I can keep.

I love it! I wish I had known about it earlier so I would have more time to prepare. Unfortunately I live in a small town, and we have neither a number 42 bus nor a 42nd street. I am sure I can find another way to celebrate. Maybe a 42 dinner. 42 ingredients, in total. An a 42 shaped cake for dessert.

No, No, No. A former Librivox reader; (could say on sabbatical) not an ex Librivox reader.

An a 42 shaped cake for dessert.
Maybe a forty-two carrot cake? Use small carrots.
Anyone can read accurately. I read with great expression.

y

They would have to be very small carrots or (looking at it another way) a very large cake and yes, yes, on sabbatical is better. Although I do make a quick dash in to record a chapter every now and again so maybe 'occasional' reader would be the thing.

For Hazel - How about CAKES?
Link to 42cake recipe here http://fortytwoday.com/42daycakes.html
I've tried it and it tastes pretty good.

Kind regards

There is NO way I'm making 42 cakes for my family of 3. I could however make 42 mini cupcakes and arrange them into a number 42. or carve a sheet cake into the number 42. I do a lot of speciality baking and carving cakes is easy. oh yeah, carving carrots is good too. Take a fat carrot and carve down the length of it the design you want so when you slice it, each slice is the design. a stylized number 42 wouldn't be hard! So for a 42 meal I've got dessert and a veg. I could also serve 42 peas each. What main course could be a 42. Any ideas?

As long as it's not 42 grammes.

42nd day is on Sunday. Anybody got plans to do anything. I was going to have a 42nd day dinner with my kids, but they will be gone for the long weekend. It is Thanksgiving after all.
So what are some of you going to do?

Nope. We ate a turkey dinner, but that was only because we happened to have a turkey.

One of my weekly tasks at the office is to set up all the employee's paperwork for the coming week. I typically do this on Sundays because the office is quiet and there's no one around to bug me.

Usually I give everyone 25 copies of a certain form and that lasts them through the week. Today everyone gets 42 copies. I'm curious to see if anyone notices.

Also, looking at my drivers' license, I see that if I subtract the year of my birth from this year, I get exactly 42. Wow. I don't believe it, but that's math for ya...

I wished my dad and three other friends a happy birthday (none of them turning 42 this year :( ), but other than that, nothing special.
