Glad to know that in Finland, those kind of locks and keys are not used in doors and such. Only in cheap locks like that of a bike.

The whole bump key thing is pretty amazing. I had seen this video elsewhere on the web.

What's not clear to me is precisely which locks would be susceptible to this method... it appears any "pin tumbler" lock could be susceptible, and should probably be tested if you are worried about security.

I know the said in that clip that ANY lock could be opened using this method, but all the locks and keys shown where different from hte ones we use here. Here we mostly use a lock that is called an ABLOY lock (after the manufacturer AB Lukko OY) where the whole concept of the lock is based on a series of rotating discs, and the key must first of all be able to go throught all these (if I remeber right, there is ten), and be able to rotate all of them at the same time. And that to work, the key must be carved just right, so it passes all of them, and that cannot be (at least to my knowledge) done without having the original key so one can make a copy. And Ab Lukko Oy only gives equipment to do so to sertified locksmiths. And the locksmith must have an written commision from the owner of the house or property where the key would work, before he can legally make a copy.

The only way (that I know of) to open such a lock without breaking it is a thing called Vempele (roughly translates as a Gadget), And the use of a Vempele requires great skill. And even that leaves markings to the rotating disc so that it can be seen that a Vempele was used to open the lock.

I of course am not an expert and might be wrong, but I still feel quite safe with my lock.

The TOOOL.nl group agrees with you in their documentation on the bump method. Abloy-style locks that use rotating discs are not susceptible to this attack.
