This project is complete and may be downloaded from the catalog here:
http://librivox.org/fifteen-thousand-useful-phrases-by-grenville-kleiser/

Note: Luciburg (Lucy) is the co-coordinator of this project and will also be around to answer questions

Fifteen Thousand Useful Phrases : a Practical Handbook of Pertinent Expressions, Striking Similes, Literary, Commercial, Conversational, and Oratorical Terms, for the Embellishment of Speech and Literature, and The Improvement of the Vocabulary of Those Persons Who Read, Write, and Speak English
by Grenville Kleiser (Audio Pronunciation)

This is a massive list of 15,000 phrases broken into eleven categories. I have broken down the list into 60-100 phrase sections. Time commitment is approx. 5-10 minutes per section making this an excellent project for the beginning LibriVox reader.
  1. How to claim a part, and 'how it all works' here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are “up for grabs.” Click Post Reply at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you’d like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  2. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  3. Is there a deadline?
This project does not have a target date, but please try to send your recordings as soon as you can. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let us know and it’ll go back to the pool. There’s no shame in this; we’re all volunteers and things happen.
  4. Where do I find the text?
Source text (please only read from this text!): EText: http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/18362
  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below):

    BC Link
Completed files for this project can be found here until the project is cataloged: http://betsie.info/librivox/useful_phrases/
  6. BEFORE recording:
    Please check the Recording Notes:
    http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6427#6430

    Set your recording software to:
    Bit Rate: 128 kbps
    Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz
  7. DURING recording:
Make sure you add this to the beginning and end of your recording:
Begin your recording with the abbreviated Librivox Disclaimer:
"Section [###] of Fifteen Thousand Useful Phrases by Grenville Kleiser, read for Librivox.org by [Your Name, date, location, url, if you wish]"
  8. At the end, say:
"End of Section [###]. This recording is in the public domain."
    If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Please leave 3 seconds silence at the end of your recording (or 5 seconds silence for files longer than 10 minutes).
  9. At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of Fifteen Thousand Useful Phrases by Grenville Kleiser."
  10. Additional Notes/Tips:
    - Do not read the definitions in the text (displayed in square brackets)
    - Do not use Audacity's Noise Removal feature without saving a copy of the original... as this feature generally stinks and you'll want to be able to easily revert back to the original version.
    - Please pronounce Kleiser with a long "I" sound (like Klyser) (Audio Pronunciation)
    - If you need help pronouncing any of the words, try looking them up at http://m-w.com (they have audio pronunciations) or http://dictionary.com ... you are also welcome to ask for help in this thread =)
    - Please remember to check this thread frequently for updates!
  11. AFTER recording:
    Save files as
    128 kbps MP3
useful_phrases_###_kleiser.mp3 (all lower-case) where ### is your three digit section number.

    ID3 V2 tags
(To find out more about ID3 tags, go to our wiki: http://librivox.org/wiki/moin.cgi/WhatIsID3)
Add the following tags to your .mp3 file (how you do this depends on which software you use – if you are unsure about ID3 tags, send me a message). Please mind upper and lower case!

    Title: Section ### - [Section Name/Range]
    Artist: Grenville Kleiser
    Album: Fifteen Thousand Useful Phrases
You may ignore tags for Genre and Track Number - these will be filled in automatically at the cataloguing stage.

    Delivery of Completed Recordings:
Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file.
    • If you have your own server space, post the link here. Please leave the file in this location until the project is catalogued.
    • If you don't have your own server space, you'll need to transfer the file to one of the free servers available. For a list of options, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.
    • Because we have two BCs on this project, if you are using a free server, please email the file to yourself and then post the link to this thread.
Please include the following with your file:
    • your name/pseudonym as you want it to appear in the LibriVox catalog, and your website URL if you like. (These are only necessary if this is your first LibriVox recording.)
    • the file size of your .mp3 file.

Um. I'm not entirely sure how to pronounce the author's last name. Is it klyser (as in eye) or klayser (as in day)?

Haha! Yay! I'll probably force myself to get up early because this sounds really interesting! Strangely enough.

Oh, don't worry. I won't. :) I like my sleep. But I need to practice getting up early for school anyway. And why not do it for a cause?

For reference, in the initial post I posted an audio file of my pronunciation of the author's name ... however as I have not done a genealogical study on this author, other pronuciations are acceptable too =)
