ALERT! Corrected Lovecraft list

Hey there,

While checking on the avilability of some of H.P. Lovecraft's stories, I came across a monumental goof of mine; the list I put under this thread is wrong. The dates for those stories are the date they were written, not published. here's the corrected list, as per this website:

1916, November: The Alchemist (The United Amateur, 16, No. 4)

Unfortunately, that cuts the list down considerably.

I'm sorry if that messes things up.

I think you made a mistake; 1923 is over the line, and is in copyright. It's much harder to establish, but much of post-1922 Lovecraft is in the public domain due to non-renewals, which are a pain to check. But if you're just going by publication year, 1923 is out.

Archive.org doesn't apply the same copyright criteria that we do ... there are a number of books there, for instance, which are available because of Canadian copyright law, which I do not think would be recordable by LibriVox.

Nice to know where the texts are for when they do fall out of US copyright, though

If there any good ones coming up soon, I might start work now!

The Call of Cthulhu
The Dunwich Horror

Not in my lifetime... The Dunwich Horror and others (which includes The Call of Cthulhu, The Dunwich Horror, The Shadow Over Innsmouth, was published in 1963 and copyright was renewed in 1991. This means that US copyright will expire in 2059.

EDIT: At the Mountains of Madness was evidently published in Astounding Stories, and possibly copyright wasn't renewed, but this always takes a fair amount of digging to find out.

It's not in the list - so it's probably not PD - so that would mean you can't record it for LV. That's what the list means.

Quick wikipedia search results in publication date of 1931. Didn't check the copyright renewal stuff.

Doesn't appear so. It first appeared in a Magazine (Weird Tales), so copyright is extra tricky. Gregg Weeks may wish to chime in with more expertise.
