Hi All,

I just want to let you guys know that we (CDNOne) have launched a channel on the Roku digital video player (http://www.roku.com) called CDNTwo (http://www.roku.com/roku-channel-store).

As part of this channel we are featuring content from you guys in an effort to promote and allow many people the hear some of the great books that you have out there (http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=25286&highlight=).

I hope you like what we have done and I would like to have a back and forth with one of the Administrators so that we can improve on how we display your content and to change the titles from time to time.

I hope this reaches you well.

Kindest Regards

John Blake

Could you please give a link that goes directly to us here at LibriVox? Maybe I'm looking with my "eyes shut" but I couldn't find us there at Roku. :(

Hi Jedopi,

You might have misunderstood me.
We have launched a channel on the Roku DVP called CDNTwo.
Incorporated in our channel are audio books read by you guys.
The only way to see your content is to have a Roku box and add our channel.
An example of what our channel looks like is here: http://cdntwo.com/demo/ (This is an older demo).
I hope this explains things better.

What kind of discussion would you need to have about displaying content and changing titles..? We have a couple of sys-adminy-admins, if it were a technical discussion, though they're not usually out and about much in the forum here. We have a couple of threads for finding out about titles people enjoyed and recommend, if that'd be helpful too.
There's honestly no such thing as a stupid question -- but I'm afraid I can't rule out giving a stupid answer : : To Posterity and Beyond!

I guess the only thing I would ask is if you guys could improve on the description fields of your RSS feeds.

Take a look at this example: http://librivox.org/bookfeeds/pride-and-prejudice-by-jane-austen.xml.

We use your RSS feeds to display your books but none of the entries have any descriptions. All there is are titles with the part number.

Now if you look at the RSS feeds from podiobooks you will see a much higher level of detail: http://www.podiobooks.com/title/nocturnal/feed.

I'm not saying you need to go to that level of detail but you would need to improve on the quality of the RSS feeds. I have already had one person mention they would appreciate more information in the description fields.

We don't have chapter-by-chapter summaries - but there are book summaries, certainly. I don't know what would be involved in putting those into the RSS, so will ping someone who might know. :D

I don't know if it would be possible to do some kind of combination with the new releases feed at your end -- it's not ideal, since it doesn't list out the files, and doesn't help for the back catalogue, but it's the only thing I can suggest if it's not practical to change what we've got now (either technically, in the time it would take or in retrospectively applying it to existing RSS feeds.)

The book summaries are included in the RSS feed, but only at the channel level (since we only have a description at the per-book resolution).

One thing I can suggest: if you have an rss feed of the form:

http://librivox.org/bookfeeds/blah-blah-blah.xml

then you will find somewhat more metadata (in particular, better titles) if you rewrite it as:

http://librivox.org/bookfeeds-v2/blah-blah-blah.xml

More recent works have an rss url of the form

http://librivox.org/rss/4077

which do not need to be re-written.

Hope that helps. If not, feel free to PM or email me (I'm not likely to be checking this thread regularly, so posting here won't get my attention :) )

I don't know if this has been answered, but the LIBRIVOX app on the Roku is no longer working. It's blank, except for the Search icon, and if you scroll down once, it automatically scrolls through the alphabet, and either goes back to "Search" or it crashes. Even if you search for something, nothing comes up...

cdnone doesn't appear to have logged in here since his last post in 2010, so I don't know whether he will see your post, Beauswifey. I can only suggest that you contact ROKU about this, as LibriVox has no control over, or connection with, the ROKU LibriVox channel.

When the latest catalog software was released all of the RSS feeds were updated to the last format shown above, http://librivox.org/rss/4077 so if the software was linked to the first two formats it may not be finding anything.

Seen on Twitter:
You can add a collection of public domain audiobooks by installing #LibriVox private #Roku channel with ACCESS CODE: Q4DSY
I have no idea how or if it works.
