A WOMAN WHO WENT TO ALASKA by May Kellogg Sullivan (Birth and Death Dates of Author unknown)

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/a-woman-who-went-to-alaska-by-may-kellogg-sullivan/
Alaska has only been a state since 1959, and the breathtaking terrain remains mostly unspoiled and natural. In modern times, many of us have had the pleasure of visiting Alaska via a luxurious cruise ship, where we enjoyed gourmet meals, amazing entertainment, and a climate-controlled environment. It's easy to also book a land package that enables you to see more of the country by train.

Imagine what it was like to visit the same wild, untamed countryside in 1899. Instead of boarding a sleek, stylish cruise ship, you travel for weeks on a steamer. You wait 2 weeks for the open, flat cars of the new railroad just to assure yourself it can travel safely through the dangerous mountain pass. No stately cabin or grand hotel awaits you at the end of your journey; you'll spend your time in rough mining camps. Such is the case in May Kellogg Sullivan's spellbinding and vivid account of her Alaskan adventures, which occurred over 18 months during 2 solo trips covering 12,000 miles. This is the perfect travel narrative to enjoy on your Alaskan cruise or in the comfort of your own home. (Introduction by Karen Commins)

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project will be opened up to a group project as soon as a Book Coordinator can be found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to have it re-instated).

I added Sarah's initials to the top because she expressed an interest in MC'ing this. Not knowing this, Karen asked if I would. I will leave that up to Sarah I think. I would be happy to be the DPL if not the MC....or Sarah can DPL and I can MC...or I would do both. What would you like to do Sarah?

Sarah, I didn't know about your interest in this book, but I would be delighted to work with you in any capacity you choose!

I really appreciate all of the help. I'm happy and excited to launch this book!

Hi Barry and Karen,

I answered in the other thread, too, but I'll repeat. Yes, I'd love to MC, but I'd be happier if Barry were the DPL since I don't know if I have enough time and wouldn't want to slow down the project.

Karen - you still need to fill in a few things... your intro/outro, file naming scheme, and ID3 tags. (You can always edit your own posts by clicking the button in the upper right corner.) Post or PM me if you have any problems or questions while doing this. It looks like this is your first solo... have you used the magic window before?

This looks nice. I clicked the notify me link. Looking forward to hearing this. (and my mom too since she loves stories of the North)

Greetings, Sarah! I updated the intro, outro, and ID tags. This is indeed my first solo project. I've seen the Magic Window, but I haven't updated it. Did I miss the link somewhere that explains how to update it, or will you be doing that? Honestly, LibriVoxers have created a truly impressive site of roles, responsibilities, and procedures, but it's a little difficult to get up to speed on the terminology and learn the tasks I need to perform. I really appreciate your help!

Since you have not done the MW before, Sarah will send you a PM with a username and password you need to log into the window to make changes to it. She will also include a link to a page of instructions for it. It is actually quite easy and we will be here to help. :D

Hi Karen,
I've sent your user name and password for the MW. I've also fixed a few things in your top post to match our standard. I tried to put my changes in red, but of course that doesn't work if I'm deleting something! Have a look and let me know if you have any questions. You are just about ready to roll! :D

Sarah, thanks for the edits on the intro/outro/ID tag info and for the PM. I've updated the Magic Window with all of the chapter titles and removed the red colors. It looks ready to me, but I'll let you be the judge! :)

Barry, Esther, and LibriFoxy -- thanks for the encouragement! I'm really looking forward to recording this book.

Greetings, Sarah! I've had some big projects lately and haven't read this book. I doubt I will start recording on it before the end of March.

No problem - just remember to post an update in the thread at least once a month so we know you're still working on it.
IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. This book has only been a solo project for 3 weeks, so I suppose these messages count for my first monthly update! :)
