Thank you,

Hi, my first submission - I've been lurking and reading FAQ's for a while, so hopefully everything should be ok! The story was published in 1891, so is public domain, but it isn't on Gutenberg as far as I can tell.

Please put my name down as Nick Strudwick.

Title: "A New England Nun"
Author: Mary E. Wilkins Freeman (1852 - 1930)
Source: "A New England Nun and Other Stories", 1891
28.6mb file size, 31:11 duration

Because the recording contained considerable noise, particularly in the middle section, I redid it and just now re-submitted. The second attempt should be improved.
The source is http://www.gutenberg.org/files/3707/3707.txt. The upload URL is http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/arb/shortstory042_newyorker_wjb.
The length is 14.2 MB or 15:32 min. The name I want associated with the recording is Bill Boerst.

Hi Bill,

Though you got rid of the noise, you also got rid of your voice. I don't know what you changed but it sounds like hearing you through a phone line or something. Maybe your mic is not plugged in correctly? You also had a lot of plosives so you need to move the mic away from in front of your mouth. Instead of re-reading the story again, how about looking at your setup, seeing if something has changed, and submit a one minute sample so you are not spending a lot of time recording it; let's get it sounding right first. What are you using to record with? You read really well so it would be great if we can get it to sound better.

Hi Nick
I just need to check what you are reading from . I have found an online text
http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/A_New_England_Nun - is yours the same ? We need to be sure as any editing etc can lead to things being able to be copyrighted .

The Buyer From Cactus City is a little loud but otherwise PL OK.

The Cut-glass Bowl could use some minor noise reduction and there are some stumble/repeats at 1:45, 3:16-3:18, and 43:00.

Amy,

This is PL OK. The Album Title ID3 tag is missing the "Vol." but Anne can fix this when she catalogs it. It would be easier for her if you can get it in there next time though.

Hi Barry,

I will watch out for that part of the ID tag next time.

Thank you!

I have submitted "Alida's Homeliness" by Annie F. Johnston (1863-1931). The upload link is http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/arb/shortstory042_homeliness_wjb1.mp3. The source link is http://www.gutenberg.org/files/19202/19202-8.txt. Length is 23.1 MB or 25:15 min.

Edit by KiltedDragon: I added the .mp3 to the end of the link so it would work.

That new mic made all the difference in the world, Bill. :D This recording was excellent. A couple small things: the volume drops a little here and there, I don't know if you turned away from the mic or something but there are two spots that it is really noticeable. From 15:08 to 15:19 and 15:57 to 16:19. Just highlight each area and use the amplify option in the Effects menu. Then when you export the file again, please add "Vol." to the Album Title in the ID3 tag. This will save Anne a little work when she catalogs it.
