Mother Goose in Prose by L. Frank Baum .

This project is now complete! You can view the catalog page here:

http://www.archive.org/details/mother_goose_prose_librivox

  1. How to claim a part, and 'how it all works' here
To find a section to record, simply look below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are up for grabs. Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you'd like to read (include the blue number, please). Read below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  2. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  3. Is there a deadline?
Target completion date of this project: October 31, 2006 - but try to send your recordings as soon as you can. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.
  4. Where do I find the text?
    Gutenberg e-text: http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/5312
  5. Please claim Rhymes (the blue numbers)!
Reader list last updated: Nov 20 2006

Note that if I have not heard from you by TBD, I will reassign your chapter(s).

    Edit
  6. BEFORE recording:
    Please check the Recording Notes:
    http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6427#6430

    Set your recording software to:
    Bit Rate: 128 kbps
Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz preferred, 32 and 22.5 also acceptable
  7. DURING recording:
Make sure you add this to the beginning and end of your recording:
    Start of recording (Intro)
    • "This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Say:
"Name of Rhyme, From Mother Goose in Prose, by L. Frank Baum"

    End of recording
    • At the end of the section, say:
      End of Name of Rhyme"
    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of Mother Goose in Prose, by L. Frank Baum."

Please leave 5 seconds silence at the end of your recording, or 10 seconds for files longer than 30 minutes!
Also, please remember to check this thread frequently for updates!
  8. AFTER recording:
    Save files as
    128 kbps MP3
    mother_goose_##_baum.mp3 , all lower-case, where ## is your chapter.
    (mother_goose_01_baum.mp3)
    ID3 V2 tags
(To find out more about ID3 tags, go to our wiki: http://librivox.org/wiki/moin.cgi/WhatIsID3)
Add the following tags to your .mp3 file (how you do this depends on which software you use if you are unsure about ID3 tags, send me a message). Please mind upper and lower case!
    Title: Name of Rhyme
    Artist: L. Frank Baum
    Album: Mother Goose in Prose
Please ignore tags for Genre and Track Number - these will be filled in automatically at the cataloguing stage.
    Transfer of files (completed recordings)
Files can either be posted here in the forum (link to your webspace) or
emailed via http://yousendit.com to: westwinds12 AT yahoo DOT com
(if you use yousendit, please post the resulting link in this thread)
I'll need the following information from you when you submit a recording:
    - your name as you want it to appear in the LibriVox catalog,
    - your webpage URL (if applicable)
    - the runtime of the recording in format hh:mm:ss

Any questions?
Please post below or PM me.
Thanks BC - Westwinds12

I wanted to try and set this up like it was a collaborative effort so I could get used to working in the forum - so when I grow up maybe I can actually coordinate a book!.. the first several Rhymes I had submitted in the short stories collection. This seemed like the next logical step to increase the skills..

So I'm confused... do you want to do this work all on your own, or do you want it to be collaborative? I'll be happy to MC you either way, but the format of your first post makes it look like a collaborative work.. meantime you've posted in the Going Solo forum.

I'd bet it is supposed to be collaborative...
But please confirm that, westwinds12, we will then move this thread to the readers wanted section (no need to set it up again). Otherwise I doubt you will get many readers...

Greetings,
Rainer

Yay! I am looking forward to hearing the rest of this collection... the ones I have heard so far are so much fun and you do such a nice job of reading them too =)

HI!
The story is ..
I have no clue what I am doing .. and would rather fumble around in a less visible place..

Ultimately I think this would be a good collaborative effort
but, I set it up in the going solo section so I could figure out
how it all works first..

My thinking was to fix / edit the stories I have already done. ( I was hoping to get some critique on the meta structure - since I just made it up).
then,
Walk through the process and after I had it all working- move it to the collaborative forum.. or maybe the short works forum?

In the solo section it would not get the attention you get when you post in one of the other forums..
This way,
I could post my own rhyme and walk through the steps - set up the spreadsheet to keep track of the volunteers ( from the help page) and try to edit the original post - all things I have never done before.

There also is the part about where to save the files when people send them - I do not have a web site and I have a firewall that frequently does not like yousend it.. so I may have issues to sort out wrt file management..

So that is the story - I was being self conscious and did not want to frustrate people with my fumbling around.. -

Comments are welcome..

I suppose we can do that - I'll move it to the Readers Wanted: Collaborative forum when you're comfortable.

Your meta scheme looks fine. :) Why don't you try editing the first post to put your email address as the place to send yousendit files? Just hit the little 'edit' button up in the upper right corner, and you'll be taken to something that looks a lot like a reply-posting screen, except that the editing window is already filled with text. Scroll down in that window to near the bottom, to the After recording bit - down to Transfer of files. Currently, the text reads:
Files can either be posted here in the forum (link to your webspace) or emailed via http://yousendit.com to: your email address (if you use yousendit, please post the resulting link in this thread)
Replace 'your email address' with your own actual email address. A lot of people like to write it like this to cut down on spammers: ceastmn AT gmail DOT com .

No problem. :) Glad to be able to help! (Looks like you've got the editing part figured out - nice job!)

I'm downloading your file now, and will give it a quick listen later. I'm at work at the moment, and funnily enough, they expect me to do WORK-related stuff here. Awfully unfair, ain't it? ;)

Okay, moving to Readers Wanted. :)

I see up in your first post, you've completed a few more files. Would you please be so kind as to yousendit them to me? (I'm a bit of a redundancy nut - I like to pick up files for all the projects I MC for, not just the ones I'm actually the Book Coordinator for.)

Thanks muchly!
