all audio files can be found on our catalog page:

The communist manifesto is originally written in German and I want to give the opportunity to hear it in the original language. Here's the first part

The other parts and the prefaces will follow soon...

Here are the prefaces
http://s24.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=096HYI8SHIPM2DWW1GE06NPFU
in the English version there is only the preface for the english edition. Here is the collection of the prefaces of other editions (the german, the russian, the polish...).

By the way, the original text can be found at
http://gutenberg.spiegel.de/marx/manifest/km_toc.htm

And another question: I introduced the chapters with the english introduction. Obviously there is now a policy for books in other languages. Should I put the German introduction before the audio files and upload them again (It wouldn't be a problem, I still have the audacity project file)?

Thank you - downloading the preface now. Thanks for realizing it should be numbered "0". :)

I'd probably just let it go and record your intro in german for the next files. But I'm lazy that way. :) Gesine, what do you think?

I've really been enjoying your first recording. I only understand a fraction but I adore the sound of spoken german and I'm sure it will help me with my accent and vocabulary if I listen while watching the text when I have time.

My ten year old just told me that he also loves the sound of german and wants me to begin to teach him a little. So I hope we can get those Maerchen recorded soon -- they're be a slightly easier teaching tool than the Manifesto.

Nah, I'd just leave it. As long as the disclaimer is in there... I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I'm looking forward to listening to this one - I've never read it.

Thanks

Yes, I suppose the communist manifesto is not the adequate text to teach 10 year old children with. I promise I will record some Brother Grimm fairy tales. But I first have to finish the manifesto.

Here's the 2nd chapter, "Proletarier und Kommunisten" (Proletarians and Communists):

Great, thanks raynr.

No rush, but - will you sign up for a Winnetou chapter, too? Need some more German readers... and it's perfect for Kara's 10-year-old... :)

Lo! Reminds me - Isn?t there a part in Winnetou in which he says:
"Hugh! Ich habe gesprochen" ?
Winnetou is famous in germany for having that sentence!

(Sorry, awfully off-topic.)

I hoped kayray would have that part...but its still free to claim.

Maybe we let hugh claim the sentence and edit it in...haha. That would be cute and a real neat insider joke.

Sorry to disappoint you, Hugh... the correct spelling of the word is "howgh," used, I think, a bit like "and that's that" :)

raynr, sorry to usurp your thread with this frivolous chatter ;)

Never mind, the thread will soon be moved to the completed section anyway. I just have to edit the last file and will probably upload it on friday.

By the way, I never read the Karl May books. I started one, but I thought it was boring, therefore I stopped. But I saw the movies (which used to be very popular in Germany) and I have to agree with Gesine, they always said "howgh"

Here is the last part consisting of chapter 3 and the very short chapter 4, "Socialist and Communist Literature" and "Position of the Communists in relation to the various existing opposition parties" ("Sozialistische und kommunistische Literatur" und "Stellung der Kommunisten zu den verschiedenen oppositionellen Parteien":

...and I tap myself on the shoulder for completing the first non-english work

Hoorah! Tap away, tap away, and we're all joining in!

Thank you, it'll be fun to listen to that. (and now go and sign up for a Winnetou chapter, she said relentlessly ;))
