Each week a poem is chosen to be recorded by as many Librivox volunteers as possible!

This week we read O Canada!, by Robert Stanley Weir. The poem can be found online here: http://www.canadianheritage.gc.ca/progs/cpsc-ccsp/sc-cs/anthem_e.cfm
Thanks to marlodianne for suggesting we do this one for Canada Day.
O Canada!
by Robert Stanley Weir

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!

From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
At the beginning, read the abbreviated "librivox disclaimer":
"O Canada!, by Robert Stanley Weir, read for librivox.org by [your name], forCanada Day, 2006" or some variation on that, adding date, location, your personal url, if you wish.

At the End say: End of poem. (Optionally add: This recording is in the public domain.)

Save your recording as an mp3 file using the following filename and ID3 tag format:

File name ? all in lowercase: o_canada_weir_[your initials].mp3

ID-3 tags:
Title: O Canada! - Read by [your initials]
Artist: Robert Stanley Weir
Album: LibriVox Weekly Poetry

Please be sure that your recording software is set to the following technical specifications:
Bit Rate: 128 kbps
Sample Rate: 44100 kHzs

Please check the Recording Notes thread before recording:

You may either post a link to your completed files here in the thread or email them to me via http://www.yousendit.com/ at this address: ac DOT timshel AT gmail DOT com. If you use yousendit, please post the link it generates in this thread as well.

Quick question, should this be sung or read?

Hmm, good question! I guess there's no reason not to sing it if you want to. I'll make it reader's choice.

Heres my regular version of O Canada

I can't sing it worth crap lol, but hopefully someone can, because just reading it doesn't do it justice.

And once again, Tyler is just fine for the catalog entry

I couldn't bring myself to just read it. Too many years of singing it at various events I suppose. So please don't laugh at my singing. I hope it is good enough, even if they won't be inviting me to sing the anthem at any event any time soon. :)

I got all three, thanks folks, each well done! The singing is beautiful, Christiane. On the other hand, the readings make me pay more attention to the words. I like having both!

Masyukun - welcome to LibriVox! How do you want your name and optionally URL to appear in the catalog?

Matthew - no worries, thanks for the info!

Starlite - got it, lovely reading! I liked how your voice trailed a bit at the end.

Wow, Karen, I'm thoroughly impressed! I would never have the nerve to sing for a recording, I admire all of you who do!
