Missing parts of this audiobook have now been recorded, and the project restored to its correct text and title.

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/a-journal-of-the-plague-year-by-daniel-defoe/

The unabating world-wide AIDs crisis and the imminent Avian Flu pandemic make Daniel Defoe's fictional yet highly realistic reportage, A Journal of the Plague Year (1722), more timely than ever.

The Gutenberg Text is located at: http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/376

Transfer of files (completed recordings)
Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file.
Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
  • Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader:
    http://upload.librivox.org
    Image
(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
  • You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: rg - RuthieG
  • When your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread.
I expect this reading to be completed by May 31, 2007.

Proof-listening 2013: Standard, plus checking at least starts and ends of sections against the text, please.

Sounds like a cool project! I'll be your MC. You know the drill by now, I'm sure. ^_~

LMK if you have any concerns or questions.

I still don't have server space. Shall I use YouSendIt or do you have an Uploader like Gesine for me to send files to?

I have an uploader here:

http://librivixen.shininghalf.com/

I don't know if it's like Gesine's or not, and it doesn't seem to work for everyone (esp. IE users). You're welcome to use it; if it doesn't work for you, then YouSendIt is OK.

Yep, it's a duplicate of what I've used successfully before.

Look for files ... you'll need to create a "Plague Year" section.

Tried using the Fox Uploader, but I keep getting a "wrong password" message.

Gesine has a password of upl0ad1t with the "o" being "zero" and the "i" being "the numeral one." What's yours?

Also, I'll be trying to keep my readings at about 30 minutes. When Defoe was writing (the first) English novels, there were no chapter headings. So I will be finding proper points to end and start with a 30 minute recording time in mind. Many mp3 players don't allow listeners to do anything but start over a recording that gets interrupted, so half an hour seems like a good point to break off, till the technology catches up with us!

Ah, sorry! Password on mine is "pubdomain."

Half-hour chunks sounds good.

Sorry I didn't mention it sooner, but I did find section 1 in the uploader at some point. It sounds great!

Thanks ... it's a great book, and an important one especially now. Defoe is greatly underrated, but a rising star in the modern literary world.

Volunteer to read a chapter for Moll Flanders to partake of all this. Even if you don't, give a listen to some of Ndoo's chapters ... she's a real pro.

(Posting this note in every project I'm coordinating)

I'm going out of town until June 30th. For the most part, feel free to carry on in my absence, but IF you submit your files through YouSendIt, please hold onto them until I get back so the download links don't expire while I'm gone. Files sent via the LibriBox will keep.

Thanks!

No problem ... and have a great vacation! I'm just slowly plugging along and holding onto files for this one.

Hey Denny,
I'm going to give Laura a hand and take over MCing this project. I see chapter 1 in the uploader. Any others floating around that I should be aware of? :)

Happy reading!
