I've updated the reader list (for the first time ever, cool!) with Letter 04.

In this letter (as through out the book) she writes of many things that have not changed. This in particular, amused me

"...the fishy and vegetable abominations known as 'Japanese food' can only
be swallowed and digested by a few, and that after long practice."

which is true to this day for many visitors and foreign residents. I still can't stand natto, a form of torture usually described as fermented soy beans.

In the next letter, she describes Asakusa temple, where I recently escorted some friends.

Funny that I was thinking about Isabella just yesterday and wanting to get back to recording some letters. Of course I"m stupidly busy until the end of the month, but I will do my best to squeeze in some recording time very soon.

BTW, where does "git 'er done" come from? I see it sometimes in forums and such, so I guess it must be an American television thing.

Hehe, yes it is. It's from the stand-up routine of an extremely annoying comic who calls himself "Larry the Cable Guy."

He's not to my taste at all, but it's one of his catch phrases which is very fun to say.

If you saw the movie "Cars" -- he's the guy who voiced Mater the Tow Truck.

Thanks for the explanation. I am happily outside the world of popular US culture, so I don't know Larry the Cable Guy. For me, reading "git 'er done" has always been rather annoying; sounds like I'd dislike the comic.

I lost the recordings I did for this. They were unedited, so no big harm done (editing takes the longest). I'll record something soon (over-claimed on collabs, stupidly).

Gesine, I find you to be one of the most ambitious people I "know". Taking on this project is a huge task, and the fact that you didn't back off by now goes to show that this project will eventually be done.

There you go. Preface recorded, edited, and uploaded.

Hopefully later sections will be of better sound quality; I'm waiting for delivery of a Samson mic.

Since we started this project, the intro requirements have changed - we now should say something like "Letter x of Unbeaten Tracks of Japan" or "Unbeaten Tracks of Japan, Letter x" before the disclaimer (and then continue as usual with book title, author, chapter title). I've done so with the Preface but obviously 03 and 04 are missing the first bit. Do you want to fix that? Easy enough by cutting and pasting from the file.

I just listened to letter 3 - what a lovely reading. I don't know how perfectionist you are, this is nothing to worry about at all but if you were to edit the intro anyway, you might want to listen to 2:50 where there is a double breath; sounds as if one had been left in after an edit. Otherwise, it's completely perfect.

I'll mark OK it in the admin.

I've completed Letter 01.

Kirsten - I've updated the target completion date to 31 Dec 2007 (from 2006!). I've also added the ID3 tags in the first post - I keep forgetting them...

Thank you, henx! I firmly intend to work on this as soon as my other solo is completed - not too long now. Sorry that it's been neglected for so long.
