[COMPLETE] Short Ghost and Horror Story Collection 002
Thanks, Catharine. That has always been one of my favorite Poe stories, and when I saw it wasn't on LV yet, I had to jump at the chance.

It's on the list of his PD cleared works, but I don't really want to do it if several other people have already done it. Is there a way to check?
Sorry, this will be my first piece for LibriVox.

Catalog search shows it's been done three times:Timothy Ferguson wrote:It's on the list of his PD cleared works, but I don't really want to do it if several other people have already done it. Is there a way to check?

However, if you want to do it, please feel free. We welcome and encourage multiple versions.
Welcome to LibriVox!

Hey Catharine,
Got Body Snatcher uploaded. Wish I had the URL, but it looks like my PC removed it from the clipboard. Damn.
Here's the source:

Hi Catherine
I'm a new reader, I have just recorded "Was it a Dream" by Guy de Maupassant. While I was editing it I realized that you may not want this story read by a woman, since it is from a man's point of view .... what do you think? I have it pretty much ready to send, other than the ID tags.
It's at http://www.litgothic.com/Authors/title.html
best regards
Sandy Wood
PS I would just like to be listed with my login name, Sandarroch, followed by my name, Sandra Wood. Was there any other info that I am supposed to send you?

SJ, found your file and linked to it in the Magic Window. (Admins have a secret back door to the uploader - very useful in circumstances like these!) I will listen to it soon!
sandarroch, welcome to Librivox! We generally have no preference as to gender, accent, whatever when recording a story (some BCs have special requirements, but that's pretty rare). As long as the story is in the public domain, please feel free to record away! I look forward to your submission. (Was there a website you wanted associated with your name in the catalog?)

Hi Catharine
I have uploaded "Was it a Dream" by Guy de Maupassant to
http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/ce/ghohor002_wasitdream_maupassant_sw.mp3
and the text is at
http://www.litgothic.com/Authors/title.html
It is 11:47 running time.
There are a couple of things I might say differently if I were to record it again, but i wondered if you would mind giving me your opinion as to other corrections needed?

Soupy, a quick glance looks like that story will be fine, as long as the final file is 70 minutes or less. (If it's more than that, it'll need to be split into two files and submitted as a solo project.) Go ahead and record it and see how it goes. But basically, it fits the criteria of the collection: text is public domain, and it looks like a ghost and/or horror story. Enjoy recording!
sandarroch, thanks for your submission! Quick sound check shows that you've got the technical specs well in hand; I'll listen to your recording soon and get back to you with comments.
One thing I will point out: the next time you submit a piece to a collection like this, please link to the text of the story you're reading itself: it's http://www.litgothic.com/Texts/maupassant_dream.html for this particular case. The address you submitted, while it is the address that shows up in the address window once you've reached the text page, acts rather strangely: if you open that address in a new window it will just go to the index of authors - I can certainly see how you got confused!

I noticed that on the the "Projects with All Sections complete" of my progress page, this project is not shown as a link, like the rest. Any idea why?

Hmmm... The "librivox URL" field is blank in the catalog database. I'll leave it to Catharine to fix (or not) in case there's some reason for it I'm not aware of.Boomcoach wrote:I noticed that on the the "Projects with All Sections complete" of my progress page, this project is not shown as a link, like the rest. Heh. I go away for a few days, and miss stuff. Thanks again for minding the thread, Jim! (And I put the link for the thread into the entry - no reason, I just forgot. I think I created the database entry and the thread with enough separation in time that I put the database number in the appropriate spots in the top post, but forgot to link. Thanks for pointing it out!)
Boomcoach, it's fixed now. There's two possible ways to enter reader names into the table, and it turns out that if I enter them by typing directly into the table it doesn't link the project to the person. I've re-entered you (and others who were entered incorrectly). Thanks for noticing - I've learned something by this!
Marian Martin, thanks very much for your contribution! I'll listen to it soon. One thing to be careful of: please do not put spaces in your filename. During the cataloging process it makes servers unhappy. Thanks!
And going back a bit...
sandarroch, what a sensitive, effective reading! It's lovely. The only suggestion I'd make is to back away from the mic just a teensy bit. I hope you'll read more for us in the future!
SJ, still listening to yours and enjoying it.
