Read very nicely. Environment is perfect, no background noise. Jerome has a very nice voice. Unfortunately, I am a professor. Oh well!

Very well done. Quality is excellent. As a cheese maker myself I agree completely with Chesterton's sentiments.

Anna: Thanks for your reading, I've updated the window.

Ron: Thanks for the info, and the reading. There are several versions fo the file on the uploader, I've taken the file Jim linked to in the Window and renamed it slightly to conform to the naming convention. the new name is "taleoftheraggedmountains_poe_rf.mp3".

Jim: thanks for taking care of things while I was off bingeing out on egg nog (actaully, very little egg nog, but lots of family time :D )

ALL: there is actually one more slot for another story or essay, as I'm going to move Leon's contribution in section one over into the Short Nonfiction Story Collection 011, as it still needs editing.

Hi Paul,

This could go in #10 if there is space, or roll to #11.

Title: Possession
Author: Adam H. Dickey
Source: The Christian Science Journal, June 1917
File: http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/pw/possession_dickey.mp3
Length: 25,944,397 bytes / 27:02

I am unable to find an online source for this, although I have seen one previously which contained errors and appears to be gone now. I read from an original copy of the 1917 printing.

Would some of George Orwell's essays be welcome?

I notice they are available on the Gutenburg site so guess they are public domain. I can't see any in the LibriVox library - but I am new to this.

Here's my demo link:

http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/xx/Marcus%20Dare%20librivox%20test-Librivox%20Settings.mp3

I have a few texts but thought I could start with Orwell's cheery essay entitled 'The Hanging'

I assume you're referring to Gutenberg Australia, as there's no Orwell on the US Gutenberg site. Australia is a +50 country, which means their copyright protection for his work expired in 2001 (Orwell died in 1950).

Since LibriVox is hosted in the US, we have to go by US law, which basically states anything prior to 1923 is public domain. I doesn't appear Orwell began writing (at least professionally) until the late 1920's. The specific essay you mention, A Hanging was published in 1931.

So, it looks like Orwell is out for us (at least for the next decade or so). Do stick around, though, and find something else you like! :)

Jim

EDIT: Re your test: Fantastic! Technical specs are perfect, well read, and the volume is great. Welcome! :)

Man, I hadn't realized it'd been three whole months since my last contribution to Librivox.

It looks as though there are enough segments to fill volume 10, so here's one for #11:

I'll give Paul a hand in sorting through the last posts - I think he has been busy, and this thread has exploded :D - I'm sure he'll be back soon!
Thank you everyone for your contributions! Now, we'll just need a bit more proof-listening of the last sections. Anyone feel like doing PL?

Wow, Arthur.

An a-b-s-o-l-u-t-e-l-y BRILLIANT voice!

There was a bit of fluctuation in volume, and the original was quite quiet with hiss which I tried to correct, but I honestly do not know if the original is better. I let PaulW and other more experienced users decide. I also corrected the id3-tags and the end silence (it was too long), but apart from those, wow!

Please, please record some more for us!
Hi Illit,
Thank you for the PL here! I hope Arthur read your comments, and will record some more!

Hi evv - thank you for your contribution.
I found this on archive.org - http://www.archive.org/details/possession00dickrich - would that be the same text?
I'll put you up in the MW - I think your contribution will be the one to fill up volume 10, but I'll leave the last word to Paul when he gets back :)

Hi guys,
And a very hearty thank you to you two too! These will be a great start to Volume 011 - which will be opened soon, I'm sure. I've put them in the first post of this thread for "safe keeping", so that they will not be overlooked.

And that's it - the thread is up-to-date again now. I'll post in Listeners Wanted to find some proof-listeners.

PL 14 - this file needs to be re-exported - it is very pleasantly read, but completely silent after 05:12.
