Thanks for the kind offer to have me take up the mic and read, Joseph, but I think I'd better stick to listening. While you've been quick to assure our readers that a Scottish brogue isn't necessary, I'm not sure what Burns would think of my Texas drawl!

Some things just aren't meant to go together.

Hi, I'd like to record most of the remaining poems, numbers 12, 13, 15, 20, 21. I am Scottish and a native of Ayrshire, though I now live in Edinburgh. I have recited Burns' poetry on many occasions and over many years.

I have a recording of one of Burns' most humorous (and underexposed) poems which you may wish to include also - Tam Samson's Elegy. I can send you as an email attachment of you let me have your address.

Welcome, Charles! You sound like a very useful fellow to have in a Burns Collection.

Joseph (co-ordinator of this project) should be along shortly, but please feel free to upload Tam Samson's Elegy to my folder using the 'Transfer of files' instructions at the end of the first post here. I should love to hear it, and it will be a useful 'test recording' to make sure that all the tech settings are right, too.

The Librivox Burns 250th will be an ongoing project through out the whole of 2009.
I see that BBC Scotland are doing something similar

Thanks for your contributions Andy - excellent.
You do have a few parts where you clip(voice is distorted).Try recording with the Mic a little further away next time.
The DC offset is usually caused by your sound card and will seriously degrade your compressed file(MP3), as well as introduce further distortion if other filters are applied to the uncorrected wave.

Robert Burns should come back and haunt you

Not because of

my horrible recording

but because you think it is not worthy.
Master Burns would surely say

My scarcity of English denies me the power of doing her justice in that language, but you know the Scottish idiom: she is a “bonnie, sweet, sonsie lass.”

Just for a moment let us dream - Robert Burns is Scotch Whiskey (distilled at a Scottish distillery) and we are all "getting fou and unco happy" (getting drunk and mighty happy)
This happiness we share in our own way

I hope you understand.

And as a final thought the Librivox Burns project will be on through the whole of 2009 - The more versions the merrier.
