This project is now complete and can be found at http://librivox.org/candide01/
I was so shocked that Project Gutenberg didn't have this book in English Translation that I got a PD-aged English version and started scanning. PG gave me a copyright clearance on it, and these scans will be going through their Distributed Proofreaders---but you all get them even a little sooner!
Each chapter will have a link by it for a zip of the scanned pages, which are b/w 300dpi pngs. Just download your section and go! The chapters average 4-6 pages in a small-format book and should be pretty quick. The Introduction and Chapter 1 zips have some extra pages of padding included, title page and such---if you DL all the zips you'll have the full sequence of pages.
Eventually there will be 30 chapters, but I decided to go ahead and start early. ^_~ Also, when I submit this to PGDP, I'll try to coordinate with them. Hopefully we can have our audio version included in the PG release!
- How to claim a part, and 'how it all works' here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones marked "OPEN" are ?up for grabs.? Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you?d like to read (include the blue number, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording. - New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording! - Is there a deadline?
Target completion date of this project: 31-August-2006
We can be pretty relaxed about deadlines, but we're all in it together wanting to see more finished books, so try to send your recordings as soon as you can. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it?ll go back to the pool. There?s no shame in this; we?re all volunteers and things happen. - Where do I find the text?
Click the link to the zip file by each chapter. - Please claim chapters (the blue numbers)!
