Hi everyone,

I got myself an "early birthday present" which arrived this morning. It's a Zoom H2 recording machine, and I think it might be one of the best things I've ever received in the post.

A bit too expensive to buy as a replacement for your microphone, but if the idea of recording outdoors appeals to you at all, then you really might want to think about giving yourself a treat. I've only used it so far to interview my girlfriend about the shortcake she was eating, but it was absolutely fantastic (the machine, that is - I wasn't really concentrating on what she said about the shortcake, I'm ashamed to say). Easy to use, brilliant sound quality and all kinds of bells and whistles which I'll quite possibly never make use of, but it's thrilling to know they're there.

Thanks for indulging my excitement,

Carl.

Oooh! Would you do a gear review for the next community podcast..? I don't mind how excited you get, as long as you record it. :D

Welcome to the world of ZOOM! Chocoholic and myself both have one. I use it exclusively for recording now. I know there are others.

Hating to rain on Carl's parade ...

I got myself a Zoom H2 to celebrate another occasion, but a week of mucking about with it has left the H2 in its box since then. Does it only work with Windows? I cannot get the sound files I record in the field to be recognized on my Mac. Any suggestions?

Do you have a card reader that works on a mac? You can always take the card out of the H2...
