called Gustav the "mother of all storms" and told residents to "get out of town. This is not the one to play with."
Nagin said those choosing to remain in their homes should have an ax to chop through their roof when the floodwaters rise
One of our volunteers are close to here - stonie1914 and I am sure there are more.

The American Red Cross has been gearing up for Gustav since the middle of last week, and because of that, I may be a little bit scarce around the fora for a few days. It all depends of where Gustav makes landfall, but the State of Louisiana has already started evacuating into Texas, and I may be busy with Red Cross for a while. Shouldn't be anything like Katrina, though...I spend 21 days straight with 14-16 hour days, then a day off, and then 14 more working on that Disaster Relief Operation!

Yes, please, to everyone in Gustav's path -- stay safe! We've been really lucky on the east coast of Florida. We're hoping our luck holds out.

Esther :(
OMG! How awful for them. I hope that Jean and her loved ones come through safely. I feel badly for the people trying to get out. :(

Hello Readers!

Gustav was very not fierce but very wet indeed in Mobile where I am. Currently here. Gustav has passed, Hannah has yet to cause any stir in the Carolina's, and everyone is keeping a wary eye out for Ike at the time of this writing. To those in my neck of the woods:

Good luck and hold on to your hats!

Everyone who lives along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico needs to keep a very close eye on Ike. Morning time Friday morning (about 36 hours before this post) the National Hurricane Center had Ike coming ashore between Miami and the Upper Keys. Now that track has moved about 12 to 15 degrees farther west, and Ike may pull another Gustav on us, as the current track looks like it's headed for New Orleans in about 6-7 days (it's too far out right now to tell).

However, it could continue to move south and west, and come in anywhere along the Texas coastline, too.

So, everybody along the Gulf coast keep an eye on Ike, and be ready to evacuate when advised to. We don't want anyone getting hurt!

p.s., if you life along the Gulf or Atlantic coastline, you might want to bookmark the National Hurricane Center website: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/. IMO the best possible hurricane information around for the US.
