All yours!
Off-topic, but pork-related... my husband and brother-in-law are both talking about this: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26092641/ I don't think Mrs. Beeton has a recipe for that.

off topic Yuk! chocolate covered bacon - Elvis food

in part 65 recipe 1330 had" 3/4 lb suet crust no. 1 1/2 " so I checked with my facsimile first vol and put in " 3/4 lb suet crust no. 1215, 1 1/2 "- just in case its noticed when its PLed. If you're not happy with this I'll take it out

inktree, thanks, I battled through it okay and even managed the French 'r' in a few places! 8) Not to mention a crazy Scotch accent for an anecdote about 26 mins in...

Landii - thanks! Would you care for another? ;)
Anne - I'll let you know if it sounds weird in PL'ing, but I think it will be fine. Good sleuthing!

Welllll, since you ask! I've got rather attached to the calf, and all his eatable bits and pieces, so I'll go onto section 41.

I'll have to post later asking for French help again... :?

Am I right about these?

AU BECHAMEL – aw BEHshuhmel

Daube - dawb (in an Aust accent, that does not rhyme with 'rob')

ragout - ragoo

AUX FINES HERBES & SAUCE PIQUANTE - stuck on this one... can you help??

Thanks!

(not sure whether & should be French or English) but I wont be offended if any one else disagrees

I knew my voice sounded young! Oh well, apparently Mrs Beeton was only 28 when she died, just four years older than me. That always amazes me - how did she manage to know so much, and write so much like a middle-aged wise matron?

Hi Landii - I'll sign you up for 41! My only comment on the French stuff is not to pronounce the s on herbes... so it would be "oh feen erb eh sauce peaCONT".

And I think 28 probably WAS a middle-aged matron at the time, wasn't it? since girls got married and started having babies at 16 or so? If I remember correctly, I think she died of sepsis after the birth of her 4th child... thankfully conditions have improved (for those of us in 1st world countries, anyway). [Boy... from chocolate-covered bacon to childbirth mortality...]

Oh no... I was a bit precipitate, and have already recorded it, pronouncing the 's' and achieving pretty bad French throughout. I could do the recording again, I sound a bit flat and unenthusiastic anyway, which I didn't want.

Do you think do it again?

Hi Joan (flutr87) - I PL'd section 16 tonight. Just did a cut-and-paste since you said "chapter 16" at the beginning... might be a bit confusing, since it's actually chapter 8. Hope that's OK with you. Your new link is here: http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/lb/bookofhouseholdmanagement_016_beeton_edited.mp3 How are the other fish sections going? If they're too long, let me know and we can split them further.

BTW, killed by a swarm of mackerel?! Who knew 40 minutes of fish recipes would be so exciting?

Could I do numbers 045 & 046 next please?

If I did decide to re-record the previous one (not sure if I will), would it present any technical problems now that it's been submitted?

Thanks :)
