COMPLETE What Prohibition Has Done to America F Franklin- lm
Greetings -
For some reason, I found this bit of literature of interest. I am in the middle of a couple of PL projects right now - one that I will most likely finish up tonight and the other over the weekend, so if you still need PL help after the weekend, I'm ready and willing.

Certainly.. thanks Lomond! This project has been going along quickly anyway, so there's no rush. Also, someone just proof-listened Chapter 1, so you don't need to do that one if you don't want.lomond wrote:Greetings -

I remember how, in college, I got that part-time job as a circus clown, and how the children would laugh and laugh at me. I vowed, then and there, that I would get revenge.

Section 6 has been orphaned, and I've claimed it.

My curiosity originally drove me to give this book a sampling and so I PL'ed chapter five while I was at it.
Notes on Chapter 5:
No, the Aussie accent does not detract from the book. No distracting audio or technical problems were noted.
A couple of small reading glitches:
Time: 6:25
but only the making or selling of it, a crime; but WHAT A MISERABLE refuge this is for a man who professes to believe that the abolition of intoxicating liquor is so supreme...
Phrase "what a miserable" is repeated.
Time: 6:44 Last sentence
Not the least of the causes of public disrespect for the Prohibition Law is the NOTORIOUS insincerity of the makers of the law, and their flagrant disrespect for their own creation.
Small reading hitch around the word "notorious".
That's it.
As someone noted, this author does not seem to believe in paragraphs.

Thanks for proof-listening, Lomond!
I think this may have originally been a lengthy pamplet. That may explain the lack of paragraphs. It wouldn't be so hard on the eyes, or the mind, if the text was broken up by lots of small pages.

This is probably a redundant post but I've just PL'ed chapter 8 in the 'Listeners & Editors Wanted' forum
http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14912
I found only one minor error.

Chapter 2 of this interesting bit of literature has but one PL'ing note.
Time: 4:33 Fourth paragraph, about 1/4 of the way through.
Apart from the question of distribution of governmental powers, it was until recently a matter of course to say that the purpose of the Constitution was to protect the rights of minorities. That it might ever be perverted TO EXACTLY the opposite purpose--...
Reading inserts the word "say" between "to" and "exactly".
Otherwise, no technical or audio problems.

I've copied over my PL of chapter 7 from the Listeners Wanted thread...
Chapter seven PL okay,
re: the note in the magic window, the change of pitch to highlight major quotes (2:01 to 2:38 and 4:27 to 6:19) is IMHO distracting, especially in headphones, the immediate thought was of technical problems.

I don't understand; do I need to re-record those parts?

No, I don't think you have to. I think aradlaw was responding to your request for some constructive criticism on that file. As for the other file, the misread is so tiny that it doesn't need to be corrected unless you'd like to. I just marked it as PL-OK.Great Plains wrote:I don't understand; do I need to re-record those parts?

I found this project in Listeners Wanted and didn't realize that lomond had offered to PL. Please let me know if you still need my help.

No, that's perfectly fine, aradlaw. Your help is much appreciated!aradlaw wrote:I found this project in Listeners Wanted and didn't realize that lomond had offered to PL. Please let me know if you still need my help.
