As long as you record everything in the proper order, Peter, I shouldn't need any special markers. I'll be following the text.Peter Why wrote:Do we need to insert a marker before each of our character's recordings? .... the previous sentence, for example ... to make it easier for the poor editors to identify? After all, the butler says "Yes, Sir" at least twice with, as I read it, different intonations, so it'd be a help to know which one fits where.

John, your voice sounds fantastic! You have really great inflection.johngon wrote:I just recorded a very rough excerpt. No editing or filtering... just to give an idea of my initial take.

Comments welcome.
(Don't forget that for the "real" take, to save the file in the WAV format instead of mp3 =)

There you go; Merriman doesn't have too much to say (but the WAV is 22 Mb! ... more talkative characters are going to have to break down their parts into lots of bits.)

Uncompressed audio is generally about 10 MB/minute (as opposed to the usual mp3 compression of about 1 MB/min). So yeah, these files are going to be huge if we don't split them up!

for various complicated technical reasons, I cannot get a recording to you till the weekend is that OK?
For the whole project - these wav files will be massive. I wonder if the thing to do is take mp3s, import them into audacity - or suchlike - and edit, then recompress to mp3. I know the sound engineers among you will cringe, but lets be honest this'll be such a dog's breakfast of sound quality that it shouldn't make much difference.
anyway, I leave it to paula, thistle, and allan the man behind the scenes.
h?

If you're going to be sending large audio files back and forth for editing, you should look into using FLAC to compress the audio. FLAC is a lossless audio compressor, so you lose no information by using it, and you typically get a file 40% of the size of the original WAV (leading in our case to files that are a touch more than twice the size of 128kbit MP3 files, but with no quality loss).
You can download the FLAC encoder/decoder from here.

Same here (if then...) - I didn't appreciate we were in a great hurry?hugh wrote:for various complicated technical reasons, I cannot get a recording to you till the weekend is that OK?

I think that Thistle and Paula wanted to do a little test of the process, and were hoping to have the raw files to Paula by the end of the week:tis wrote: Same here (if then...) - I didn't appreciate we were in a great hurry?

Just to let you guys know, the editing will not go as quickly as the readings. Thanks for your patience.
