Here is the first known English translation of Marquis de Sade's Justine, or The Misfortunes of Virtue, also listed under the alternate title Opus sadicum: A Philosophical Romance. Published in 1889. This is actually a first draft of the novel that de Sade would later go on to expound upon with far more vile and controversial passages. Comparatively, this edition is quite restrained in its content and significantly shorter than later editions.
