I'm so sorry, I totally dyslexed out on that one.redrun wrote: ↑October 30th, 2024, 7:01 pmHi Shelly,
I just want to confirm before we get things moving. You are signing on to edit this DR, is that correct?
On solo books, the reader will often say that "so-and-so" is joining as DPL, so they're not in need of one. To avoid misunderstandings, though, we usually expect those DPLs to post in-thread to confirm before we add them. Likewise here, for our editor.

Ah. Well, it's a good thing I asked, then. (Is there one of these for a sheepish grin? Embarrassment is close enough. )
Victoria, it sounds like you've got PL covered yourself, the script is corrected, a narrator is at least provisionally signed on, and we know what to do about the character roles - which is to open them for claims when the MW goes up.
We're just missing an editor.
An aside for those reading along:
Editing dramatic projects is a lot of work, which is precisely why we don't start one without someone who is both ready and willing. That'd just ensure that if it ever gets done, it's because someone was pressured or guilted into it, and that's not what we're here for.
So, Victoria: is there anyone else who would actually want to edit, or would you be willing to commit to that yourself?
There's time to think on it.
If there's nobody in the near future, the "worst" that happens is we put this particular thread to rest, but you keep your script and your narrator, if they want to be kept. If someone "frees up or trains up" for editing later on, then you make sure you're all ready at that time, and post a new thread with the same script. I would advise waiting on character claims until everything is verified and the MW is set up, though.
Does that sound fair?

I'm hoping someone else can take the position, I'll wait it out a little while and maybe things'll be different then. Yeah, it's probably less confusing to start with a new thread.redrun wrote: ↑November 1st, 2024, 4:24 pm Ah. Well, it's a good thing I asked, then. (Is there one of these for a sheepish grin? What is editing? I might be able to do that. Is it just putting the parts together?

That's precisely it - editors usually start with the narrator's file for each chapter (or in a play, each act), and cut/paste to insert the lines from all the readers' files for the same chapter/act. You can see how one volunteer does it, near the bottom of this post. It's time-consuming, but can be very rewarding work!ballethorse wrote: ↑November 13th, 2024, 9:20 am What is editing? Before you can commit to edit this project - all 39 chapters of it! - you'll need to get your feet wet, see just how much work it is, and whether you like it enough to do it 40-some times over.
If you'd like to try it out, there might be some existing projects whose editors wouldn't mind some help with a chapter/act or two. Or, you could run your own one-act play or short DR, as part of a collection.

Just to let you know I'm still on board to take Narrator.
I think we will be well past my stage production before I need to devote time to this.

I see. This project would be too challenging for me to start editing on.redrun wrote: ↑November 13th, 2024, 9:37 amThat's precisely it - editors usually start with the narrator's file for each chapter (or in a play, each act), and cut/paste to insert the lines from all the readers' files for the same chapter/act. Right. Not a good starter project... but nothing says you can't come back when you've got some editing under your belt. Sounds like our narrator will still be interested too.
Like Silverquil, I'm here for Anne, but if someone else gets her, hope she has a great timesilverquill wrote: ↑November 13th, 2024, 10:00 am Just to let you know I'm still on board to take Narrator.
