I am having a problem with recording, no matter if I have a mic plugged in or nothing at all, it records but there is no audio of me recording, i talked but nothing goes through. I had to download Audacity through Linux since I'm on a Chromebook so to be honest I don't know what to do.

You’ll need to upload that image to a website somewhere, and post the url here with the code img and /img, both in square brackets, before and after the address if you want anyone to see it. You can’t just include a link to your computer. Wouldn’t be very safe if that were possible.

Is it possible there's no mic connected? Check your Audio settings to see if the input mic is set to the correct one. Of course, this could be a Linux issue, but I don't know anything about how that works or what it would look like.

yes there was, I tried every option with and without a mic but nothing worked so I'm not sure what to do, I also have another question does each person have a supervisor or is there someone specifically that I can talk to since I need to get a supervisors signature for my school senior project. since I have too do a weekly report on what I've done throughout the week.

We’re all volunteers, here, even the admins (see “The team,” at the bottom of every forum page for a list of the admins). There are no supervisors. I have seen questions like yours before. See this page on the Librivox Wiki for the official policy on this: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Misc_Q%26As#Can_volunteering_be_credited?

Hi,

I am anything but an expert. But I have got Audacity 3.6.2 for Linux working and here are a few of the settings that might help you. At least try them till you get advice from someone more technically competent.

Edit, Preferences, Recording:

Hear other tracks while recording (overdub)
Detect dropouts
Sound activated recording - Level (dB) -50

Audio Setup

Host ALSA
Recording Device Default
Recording Channels Mono
Project Sample Rate 44100 Hz
Default Sample Rate 44100 Hz
Default Sample Format 16-bit

Best,

thanks for your help but unfortunately I was only able to download the 3.2.4 ver. and the settings you gave me did nothing for me, I don't mean for it to sound rude. Thanks again for you help though

Not an expert either, but have you checked that the recording device inside Audacity is set to your microphone, and that in your operating system, this microphone isn't deactivated?
Not sure whether you CAN disable microphones in Linux, but in Windows, that's possible. They won't appear for selection in Audacity then.

"Yuuuup."

I'm not familiar with Linux, but...

Is there another program you can use your mic on (Zoom, some game, etc.) that you can be sure the mic works and the computer itself senses it? If that's working...

Is your microphone showing up in the Audacity device (microphone) list at all? If not, plug in the mic and go to Transport -- Rescan Audio Devices. See if the microphone is available then.

You do realise we are unable to supervise and sign off on anything - did you mention when you registered that this was what you wanted ?

Hey, I have an Audacity query:

What I would like to know is whether or not its possible to save the settings required for librivox to a profile that can just be selected for use where necessary. And have multiple profiles, for 'commercial' 'youtube' 'ACX' and such for the different requirements for different work?

Thanks in advance and sorry if already covered on forum somewhere.

Yes, you can do this with macros. I don't have the time at the moment to find you info on macros, but I bet if you search "macro" in this thread, you'll find some helpful explanations. I'll check in later and post again if needed.
