Short Science Fiction Collection 100, by Various
Librivox has officially contributed a whopping 100 of these numbered collections of science fiction short stories! To celebrate, we are doing something a little special with this one. All stories included in this deluxe edition of the Short Sci-Fi Collection are at least 100 years old! We thought it would be a great idea to celebrate the expansive genre of science fiction by going back to its early years and experiencing the kinds of stories that molded one of the most imaginative, forward-looking genres of fiction while also reminding us that a tale well told is not limited to a specific time or place. So join us at Librivox as we blast off into a glorious past that influenced where we have been and where we are going! (Summary by Ben Tucker)
This collection is for science fiction stories of less than 74 minutes in duration that are in the Public Domain AND THAT ARE 100 YEARS OLD OR MORE (Anything published in 1924 or earlier can be included). Gutenberg plain text, us-ascii, uncompressed files of less than 80 KB or 10,500 story words can generally be read in less than 74 minutes (depending on your reading speed the word count estimate could be considerably higher or lower). If the story exceeds this length, it may be necessary to split the story into multiple parts.
Claiming stories is unnecessary (duplicates or stories more recent than 1924 will be held for future collections).

Finding Texts:
I've created this helpful page of unrecorded Sci-fi Stories from 100 years ago or older: viewtopic.php?t=102876
It is non-exhaustive and I will most likely continue to update it as I find more stories. You aren't required to read from this link above and can record any story that meets the criteria stated above..

File Requirements:
• Recording must be a mono MP3 file with a sample rate of 44.1 kHz and a bit rate of 128 Kbps.

• File name must be formatted entirely in lower case letters and use under-bars to separate values as in:
ssf100_titleinoneword_authorlastname_readersinitials_128kb.mp3 (e.g. ssf100_crystalegg_wells_abc_128kb.mp3) Exclude definite articles like “The” from the file name.

Recordings require 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the file.
Beginning Announcement:
“[story title] by [author]. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
You can then optionally say: "Recording by [your name]".
Then repeat: "[Title], by [author]. Translated by [translator]."

Ending Announcement:
"End of [title], by [author] Translated by [translator]."
You can then optionally say: "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
• Recordings require 5 seconds of silence at the end of the file.

Posting completed recordings:
• Send your completed recording to us by using the LibriVox Uploader

• Always post a message to this forum thread after a successful upload. The message must contain:
o The story title
o The author’s name
o The URL displayed by the LibriVox Uploader after the file has successfully uploaded
o The URL for the online version of the text. So there can be a choice of file format to download, please use the Gutenberg main page for the source such as https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/29975
o The duration of the recording
• If this is your first submission to the Short Science Fiction Collections please provide:
o Your name/pseudonym as you wish it to appear in the LibriVox catalog
o Your personal website URL (optional)
Check this forum thread frequently for messages pertaining to your story!

Hi Ben, Here is A Fishing Trip on the Planet Mars (1919) which I dedicate to my dad who was an avid fisherman. This is from your list of unrecorded short science fiction stories 1924 or earlier which you linked in the first post; thanks so much for that!

My contribution to the volume. Not really sure if it counts as science fiction but got it from your list of unrecorded short stories.

The Loaded Line - Charles S. Wolfe

length 22:01

There was a short editors note at the end of the story talking about not fishing with high voltage, I didn't include it but I can add it very quickly if it's needed.

Thanks! This is ready for PL! (The filename has a after the 128 but hopefully Christine can remove that during cataloging).

Not a big deal if it's included or not. As to the "science fiction" of it, I like to look at it as Fiction based in science which makes it sci-fi by the most technical definition. This is ready for PL!

The Loaded Line
21:56 please add "by Charles S. Wolfe" after "End of the Loaded Line" and maintain the 5 second silence at the end.
Thanks!
