Begin your reading with the abbreviated LibriVox disclaimer:
Leave ½ to 1 second of silence at the beginning.
Mother's Way by Abram Joseph Ryan, read for librivox.org by [your name].
[Add, if you wish, date, and/or your location.]
Then read the poem:
Oft within our little cottage,
As the shadows gently fall,
While the sunlight touches softly
One sweet face upon the wall,
Do we gather close together,
And in hushed and tender tone
Ask each other's full forgiveness
For the wrong that each has done.
Should you wonder why this custom
At the ending of the day,
Eye and voice would quickly answer:
"It was once our mother's way."

If our home be bright and cheery,
If it holds a welcome true,
Opening wide its door of greeting
To the many -- not the few;
If we share our father's bounty
With the needy day by day,
'Tis because our hearts remember
This was ever mother's way.

Sometimes when our hands grow weary,
Or our tasks seem very long;
When our burdens look too heavy,
And we deem the right all wrong;
Then we gain a new, fresh courage,
And we rise to proudly say:
"Let us do our duty bravely --
This was our dear mother's way."

Then we keep her memory precious,
While we never cease to pray
That at last, when lengthening shadows
Mark the evening of our day,
They may find us waiting calmly
To go home our mother's way.
At the end of your reading, leave a space and then say:
End of poem. This recording is in the public domain.
Leave 5 seconds of silence at the end.

Yay, David is first in. 8-)
Early for me this week because it should be a busy one of transition.

Lovely poem.

Thank you MorphineLolly, there are a couple of PL notes...
- at 0:28 I hear "Would you wonder why this custom", the text reads "Should you wonder why this custom"
- at 1:01 I hear "And when we deem the right all wrong;" the text reads "And we deem the right all wrong;"
- the volume is low at 83.7 dB, You should aim for your waveforms to peak near the 0.5 mark, like this:

Image

You can check your volume using our Checker program - see info at https://cgjennings.ca/projects/checker/ You will find the volume in decibels on the Information tab. For your information, we look for around 89 dB (87-91 is OK) (all the other tech specs are there also)

Could you make those corrections and upload (using the same filename) thank you. :D

Lee, you've submitted the wrong file here. :wink:
(I did not see your 'Mother's Way' in the uploader.)
