Short Story Collection 110, by Various
This collection is for any short story in the English Language in the public domain, preferably less than 60 minutes. You are welcome to contribute as many as you wish, and there is no need to "sign-up" before recording as long as the work is clearly in the public domain.

Please ask here if the story was published after 1928 or if you are unsure for any other reason about its public domain status. Note that translations attract their own new copyright and must also have been published before 1928.

Multiple versions are always welcome, so you can record a story that has been recorded before. (If the same stories are submitted twice in the same collection, we will carry the second version over to the next collection) .

You may prefer to submit your recording to one of the other more specialized short story collections. Please note that this collection is intended for an adult audience. (Summary by LynneT)
Source text Readers select their own Public Domain text.

There is no need to pre-claim.

New to recording? Please see our Newbie Guide to Recording for further instructions. A quick guide to our required technical settings can be found here. When you post your file, please tell the BC what name you would like to use in our catalog.

Prooflistening level: Standard
Prospective PLs, please see the Guide for Proof-listeners.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Here are two for you, Lynnet. :)

They are both from the same issue of New York Weekly on page 2: https://digitalgallery.bgsu.edu/items/show/40324

The Alcalde of San Cristobal; or How the Rangers Obtained Their Supper by S. Compton Smith (????-????)
https://librivox.org/uploads/lynnet/ssc110_alcaldeofsancristobal_es_128kb.mp3 (11:53)
text: https://digitalgallery.bgsu.edu/items/show/40324

The Obdurate Father; or, The Death of the Disowned by Bella F. (????-????)
https://librivox.org/uploads/lynnet/ssc110_obduratefather_es_128kb.mp3 (5:32)
text: https://digitalgallery.bgsu.edu/items/show/40324

I was unable to find the birth and death dates of S. Compton Smith, but it seems that he was an acting surgeon in the Mexican-American War based on this Internet Archive text: https://archive.org/details/chileconcarneorc00smit/page/n7/mode/2up.

Also, as a trigger warning, The Alcalde of San Cristobal has a pseudo-lynching of a Mexican man.
Elsie :9:
Like Sweden and coming of age stories? Read for Pelle the Conqueror
Like travelogues and Anthony Trollope? Read for The West Indies and the Spanish Main
Shadowland: October, 1919
