Section 4. Man from Alaska
wow, Felicia, excellent and lively narration. Wonderful for your first official recording  I especially loved the boisterous voice you used for the main character here. It makes for interesting listening. And the story was lovely with a happy ending. :9: So thank you for that. I'm thrilled that the Black Cat saw your LV debut.

A few small edits still to make, but no worries, it's not difficult to edit and there is definitely no need to re-record from scratch. I mention this because some new readers think they need to redo it all, but actually that is usually not encouraged as it creates too much work for both reader and listener. So please only edit and correct the time stamps I'm marking for you. If you need a step-by-step on how to edit, let me know. The easiest way is to re-record that bit of the sentence in another audacity window, noise-clean and amplify as needed, and then just paste it into the right slot.

> at the beginning: we recommend between 0.5 and 1 second of silence, you could cut a little bit there

> at 0:22: "read by Felicia Molyneux" – you omitted "read by" which makes it sound a little bit like this was the author, or part of the title

> at 13:31: (p. 34) "until he happend into a tiny French cook-shop" – you forgot "French", quite an important info at this point in the story ;)

> at 15:12: (p. 35) "up with your glasses" – you forgot "up" which sounds a bit strange in context

> at the end: we'd like a standard of 5 seconds of silence, here you need to add some seconds, you barely have 2 seconds

Simply reupload with the exact same file name, so the old file gets replaced with the new file.
Oh and please, always include the length of the file when you post the link, so the Magic Window can get updated right away.

Thanks and I hope to hear you in many more stories still, maybe even in another Black Cat one day. :) And I suspect you may find your way into our drama section soon, are you interested in playacting ? Plenty of stage plays waiting for new voices.

 excellent editing. There are nearly 6 seconds at the end now, but no need to reupload another time. Just keep it in mind for your future recordings.

Congrats now, on your first official PL ok section. Many more to come hopefully. Thank you

Please note that I am still interested in recording this story. Could I please have until May 11, 2024 to complete this?

hi Sabrina, glad to hear back from you and that you are still interested. Thanks for letting me know.

I can give you a one-month extension, so you can finish without any stress. (of course if you are done early, we're all the more happier  )

Looking forward to your story.

yes, thank you so much, I was looking forward to this story. And quite a predictable ending it was.

First of all, your reading is word perfect  and lovely narrated. So that part was excellent.

Unfortunately, the sound is quite distorted :( I suspect you were overprocessing it with noise reduction maybe ? I listened to your one minute test and the poem by Bronte, and both are so clear in sound, so it's definitely not your microphone. Do you have by any chance kept your original file, prior to sound editing ? Maybe you could send me that one and I can see what I can do to make it sound better. What did you do to reduce the noise or did you have to amplify (or decrease) the volume a lot ? Did you do anything different than with the test or the poem ? I hope you still have kept the original, as otherwise the reading is so good it would be a pity to lose it.

Another thing concerning the longer silences inside and in between sentences: I usually recommend staying well under 2 seconds, even between paragraphs, usually 1.5 is fully enough, inside sentence I would even recommend less, because longer silences easily break the flow and feel very long for a listener to wait for the story to continue.

I have noted down at least the overly long breaks which would benefit from cutting. The best is to start at the end, that way the time stamps won't change for you

> at the beginning: we recommend 0.5 to 1 second of silence maximum, you could also cut here a bit
> from 0:22 to 0:24
> from 0:40 to 0:43
> from 2:57 to 3:01 (here there is a lot of noise as well, which can be cut at the same time to make it cleaner)
> from 6:54 to 6:56

> at the end however: we need a standard of 5 seconds of silence so the ending isn't too abrupt, could you add 4 seconds there

I've revised it here! I think I did overdo it with the noise reduction; since it's been hot, the fan is on in the background. Hopefully, this is better to work with! I also hope I resolved overly long silences, too.

 you're right, this audio quality is much better, so it must have been the over-cleaning. Careful there. I did a gentle cleaning round for the background noise and amplified it a little bit, and now it definitely passes muster. To be on the safe side I listened to it all again and the silences are indeed shorter and the whole story runs smoother.

Absolutely PL ok, thank you so much ! And maybe I'll be hearing you in another Black Cat one day 8-)

This means, the project is ready for the catalogue. I will post the link when all is through.

A big thank you for the 5 readers of this issue: Claire, Julie, Sabrina, Felicia and Greg

And as always, here will be the teasers for your stories:
> The Glen Echo Mystery: the opening of an old box finally sheds light on a disturbing murder case.
> Bumblepuppy on the Range: an unusual plot to scare a man away who has apparently seen it all.
> The Transformation of Mrs Dwight's Son-in-Law: Mrs Dwight has to face an important change in her life.
> The Man from Alaska: learn the story of this man with the unusually healthy appetite.
> Two Christmas Eves: a story about the importance of telling your feelings to loved ones before it's too late.
Stay tuned for the link
