I did, too. The names were certainly creative and great fun to listen to. (Treecalf might be favorite)

Thanks, Laura.

I liked "Treacle, Gluepot, and Lampblack"!

I've uploaded chapter eleven. I've also uploaded a copy of the text for the chapter, which I marked up with "QQ" and "EQQ" for "quote" and "end quote", in trying to avoid missing any out. Use it, or not, as you choose: https://librivox.org/uploads/tests/CheshireCheese_11_quotes_py.txt

I moved the footnote for the quotation at the start of the recording to the end of the sentence.

A couple of notes for chapter 11:

~:52 Text is: "On Sunday, April 17,"--'Sunday' was read 'Saturday'

~12:24 'retired' is missing from: "Old Harry” retired soon after the portrait-painting from age and infirmity, but was alive at Christmas, 1838.

I don't think I'll ever make it across the pond but if I do I'll have to visit Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese. Have you been since you started this project?

Thanks, Laura; I've edited and re-uploaded chapter eleven.

I'm waiting for a delivery today, but if nothing happens tomorrow (and the weather's okay), I'll go to there and wander round the pub .... Gough Square, too! I'll take my camera.

Thanks, Laura; I've uploaded chapter twelve.

I did wander round the area on Friday. Unfortunately, the map made it look a lot more interesting than it was in reality; it's now all glass, concrete and steel. Dr Johnson's house in Gough Square was one of the few brick buildings still standing.

I ran out of time, as I had to start late, and had an appointment in the evening, so just peered into the Cheese as someone was going in; it does look wonderfully dark and cluttered. I'm looking forward to trying it. Yesterday and today it's been raining .. but sometime soon.

How nice you had a chance to wander around. I guess with the progress of time, it's amazing any old buildings such as Dr Johnson's house are still standing at all. The glimpse you got of inside the pub sounds quite atmospheric.

Here are the notes for chapter 12:

~3:26 repeat of 'and then'
~8:11 just check that the pause before 'and the genial landlord' is okay.
~11:57 'but' is missing from: 'but lady-like in manners and appearance.'

Thanks, Laura; chapter 12 edited and re-uploaded.

I feel a bit self-conscious about taking photographs inside buildings, so I looked for images on-line: here are some nice photos: https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo/old-cheshire-cheese-pub.html?sortBy=relevant

I'm definitely getting in there! ..and I have a pub-loving friend to introduce to its delights, too.

Thank you for the link to the photos, Peter. I have no doubt you and your friend will have a magnificent time and I'll look forward to hearing all about it.

re covers - most of the images linked are marked by Alarmy and are somewhat PD if-ish. The one with Samel Johnson it is was great but has to be a modern dramatic photo and has inbuilt Alarmy water marks,
I did like this one at Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ye_Olde_Cheshire_Cheese (The one with the people).
And the illustration showing St. Pauls that I found somewhere.

I hadn't been thinking of a cover yet! I just loved the look of the interior of the pub.

Which reminds me, Anne; thanks for the lovely cover for Wonderful London.

~16:50 just check that right after 'quote' is said, that it's okay

and the outro just needs 'by Thomas Wilson Reid' added after the title, then you'll be good to go

Thanks, Laura; chapter thirteen edited and re-uploaded. The last!

And my thanks to you and to Annise for all your help.

Next Victorian London book starts before the end of the week, then it's some Edith Nesbit.

EDIT: Annise, I've added "Samuel Johnson" to the keywords list, as he turns up quite frequently.
