The Prisoner of Chillon and other poems, by George Gordon, Lord Byron (1788 - 1824)

Lord Byron visited the Castle of Chillon near Lake Geneva in Switzerland in 1816 and was intrigued by the legend of Francis Bonnivard who was said to have been imprisoned there in medieval times. He wrote the title poem of this book in response to that visit.

Originally published in 1816 this collection was extended after Byron's death. The final poem was written on his 36th birthday, just 3 months before his death.

I will BC this project and initially PL sections uploaded. I may look for a DPL later to PL the sections I read.

I will need the good offices of an MC :help:

This project will not include Mazeppa which is a long narrative poem which needs a project of it's own.

I'll MC. MW soon.

EDIT: MW up.

(I deleted the Translator Ivan from your project page - the material was already written in English, and I find no evidence from wikipedia that Ivan worked on this book (although the introduction has no name associated with it).

Thanks, Todd

Thanks Todd
Ivan Tanin was the translator of the previous project I launched (Poems by Pushkin). For some reason the Project Generator added his name to this one even though I am sure I didn't type it in. I thought I had removed all references to him but obviously I missed one. Something to double check in future
