Hi Michele,

Chapter 18 (23:43) ready for PL. You will note that I took a chance on how to deal with a series of charts in the chapter. Let me know if you think it was appropriate.

Sorry for the delay. I had not gotten the usual email notices, so this morning I decided to do a manual check and voila, two posts!

PL Notes 18

1:40 ''But", I said, "you knew"; you say "But as I said", implying that Thorndyke is still talking.

As to the charts, I think the point is well made that Thorndyke made charts comparing Barbara's absences with the concentration of poison in the hair, and that they overlap.

Aside:
I heard a detective say the other day that on most TV crime stories, they are not factual, that the authorities break the rules within the first 5 minutes. I wonder if the same holds true with crime novels, or if the publishers have to confirm that the means described are factual? If so, could someone commit a similar poisoning using this information? I also heard they have to leave something out so the crime can't actually be duplicated.

I do hope that your summary will let everyone know that Thorndyke is a recurring character in many novels. I had no idea.
