This is my first recording and upload to Librivox, so feel free to share any criticism you may have, I'm more than happy to learn from it and make the readings better.
I apologise in advance for my terrible American accents in the dialogue, and may stick to a book with British characters next time.
Congratulations on your first ever Librivox recording! PL OK! My only comments would be about the volume. The recording starts quieter then levels up further on. Not sure if it's the same case, but my microphone also does that - it's like it's taking some time to warm up or something. It's not a problem here, but when it's more pronounced, what I do is to amplify the quieter parts at the beginning. Just mentioning it as something to watch; maybe it was a one off thing, or regular. We'll see! (meaning, here's to you doing more recordings! :D )

Thank you, Ben! PL OK! Intriguing description of the afterlife!

Thank you! I'll listen out for that as it's something I didn't even notice while listening through! Maybe I just got excited and got closer to the microphone as I went on...

Awesome! thank you, Katherine! Everything worked well, I'm glad!
My only feedback for your next recordings is to leave 5 seconds of silence at the end of your recording.
Lovely reading of Poe!

The Gothic Horror by George T. Wetzel
https://librivox.org/uploads/rapunzelina/ghohor073_gothichorror_wetzel_bt_128kb.mp3
source: https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/73441

Wetzel is a new author:
George T. Wetzel (1921-1983)

Interestingly Wetzel is known more for his essays on Lovecraft and the Cthulhu mythos than on his fiction. I can definitely feel Lovecraft's influence on this one at the end.

This is Howard Phillips Lovecraft's "Music of Eric Zann" quite a favorite of mine!

hmmm, so I kinda, unthinkingly did not use Gutnberg or archive for this. I totally spaced, got too excited and copy pasted from https://www.hplovecraft.com/writings/texts/fiction/mez.aspx into word. If it is different at all from the official I would not mind doing it once again

this is NOT my first recording!

Text source is fine! And I got your file at https://librivox.org/uploads/rapunzelina/ghohor073_musicofericzann_lovecraft_ww_128kb.mp3

Not sure when I'll get to enjoy it and Ben's story - weekends are busier for me - but we're in a good place :D

Terrific story! But you wouldn't expect anything less from Lovecraft!
Please check the following proof-listening notes:
at around 11:13 and 11:17 there's a repetition: "The next day Blandot gave me a more expensive room on the third floor"
at around 15:01 a sentence is missing, just after "which beset him.": "I waited, and the dumb man’s pencil flew."
while the story ends at 21:41, the recording goes on silence till 31:36 - maybe there was an extra track in audacity that added length to the exported file.

Are you comfortable with doing these edits? Let me know if you'd like any guidance for editing in audacity!

Rapunzelina wrote: April 5th, 2024, 5:27 am Hi Vin!! It is OK, but in 1923 it was published as "The invisible monster" by Sonia Greene https://archive.org/details/WeirdTalesV02N04192311/page/n75/mode/2up and by this title, there is a recording on Librivox. You can still offer your rendition of the story of course, but it will need to be as published in 1923, that is, the 1923 title by the 1923 author. :hmm:
Perfect, thank you! :D
Apologies for the delay, life has gotten a bit busy for me. I should have a version of this ready by the end of next week, maybe sooner if things go well.
