A Crown of Straw, by Allen Upward (1863 - 1926)
There is a plan afoot to commit murder, but who could be the intended victim?
The scene switches to an old forester and his seventeen-year-old daughter, Dorothea, who is enjoying the attentions and gifts of a mysterious stranger. She is innocent and unaware of his intentions, but her father and childhood sweetheart, Johann, are suspicious. There is a web of mystery growing around the court of King Maximilian and the question of his eccentricity (or insanity) and fitness to be king, but the fact remains, he needs a wife and heir to ensure the security of the crown of Franconia. Hi and welcome to Librivox!
There are a few things to do before you get started.
You will need to complete a one minute test - this is to check your specs are up to Librivox standards, and if not, you'll be given hints on how to remedy that. http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/1-Minute_Test
Please post your test in the Listeners Wanted forum (see the dropdown at the bottom of the page) for the speediest response. Waiting for the OK may seem tedious, but can save time in the long run. I will just assign one section for now, but once that has been submitted, you will be free to claim any sections that are still open. Your section will be held for 1 month pending your test. Please keep in touch if there is a problem.
You will also need to be added to the catalog of readers. I will add you using your forum name, but if you prefer your real name or a pseudonym let me know. We can also link to a personal blog or website. If you click on your name in the Magic Window, you will be taken to your catalog page.Be sure to read the first post - all the info you need is there, but if anything doesn't make sense, just ask. The wiki (see the top of the page) has bundles of info too.

Chapter 3

~6:27 stumble "thought to have some... some personality"
~7:30 stumble ""It was only natural that the beauty should now show herself"
~7:50 mispronounced word "Viscountess" should be "Vi-countess" -- this is an optional correction, as we do not usually ask for corrections on pronunciation -- but this particularly jars :|
~8:34 stumble "the old--old chancellor"
~10:29 misread "he greeted to turn" should be "he turned to greet"
~10:52 stumble "I only hope that you will not mind my joining in your talk?"
~12:30 I hear "what should I say" should be "what should you say"
~14:15 stumble "He has bestowed his affections"

There are noises throughout that sound like mic bumps or something similar. No need to fix them, but please be careful in future recordings.
I think if you slow down in your reading you will have fewer stumbles.
