Hello

Where did the suggestions for new material to record come from?
Is it just a matter of people coming across works which have yet to be recorded?
Is there someone reviewing lists of new works entering the public domain?

Interested to know.

Thanks.

Hi Jacob, and welcome!

Ideas for new projects can come from all over the place. We have many suggestions for new projects collected over in the Book Suggestions forum: viewforum.php?f=1 Basically, any time someone hears about a public domain book we don't have that they would like to see recorded, they can post it there in hopes that someone will decide to adopt it. Feel free to browse that forum if you would like.

Or, perhaps someone hears about a public domain book (whether we have it already or not) that they want to record, and they immediately decide to record it themselves. No need to post in Book Suggestions then, they can just start a new project.

We do have a handful of volunteers who like to research new works entering public domain, especially as the new year approaches each year. Often they post their findings in Book Suggestions for anyone to see. But this is completely voluntary on their part. We have never asked anyone to do this or assigned that as a task to anyone. I'll add that there is no complete and comprehensive list of this kind that I know of. It is based (in the USA) on the book's publication year, so you would just have to try to find books published in a certain year. On January 1, 2025, books published in 1929 will be entering PD in the US.
