Hello! I recorded this with Audacity on a Windows 11 PC, with a USB Mic.

Any advice or tips? Also, I am not sure if the A/C in the background is a problem. I have trouble differentiating, but it is a very consistent noise. Not sure if it should be completely silent. What do you guys think? :D

Can't wait to get involved!!

Welcome Jenna

Your technical settings are correct and voice sounds good, but there is too much background noise by about 15dB. The AC is distinctly audible. (You are using AC already? We still have the heater running.)

Anyway, try to isolate your mic from the noise. If that isn’t entirely successful, use Audacity’s Noise Removal filter to reduce the background noise about 15dB. Noise removal instructions are available here: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Noise_Cleaning. A video tutorial on Audacity noise removal is available here: https://youtu.be/rvhqw7zBmEo

You can pre-check your audio yourself by downloading the free Checker app: https://cgjennings.ca/projects/checker/
Passed with Warnings is a fail with regard to volume.
With Checker open, go to Validation>Choose Validation Methods and check Background Noise. Be sure to leave 5 seconds blank at the end of your recording.

Please make a new test recording and post it in a reply to this message. I will come back and review it for you.

Thank you so much for the feedback!! Here is that edited recording. That link helped a ton. (And haha, yes! It's 77 degrees one day and 40 degrees the next where I'm at lol).

Okay, you are good to go. If you used Audacity Noise Removal, you can use a bit less. Reduction of 10 - 15dB is usually adequate.

No need for a new test.

Happy narrating!
