Did you maybe not copy and paste the link from the uploader? Because what you’ve typed here is not a functional link. There’s no s or back slashes after http, and there are spaces between onslaughtfromrigel and 03, between 03 and pratt, between pratt and 128, and between 128. and mp3. All but the last of these should be underscores. And the kb after 128 is missing. If I put in the underscores where they should be, still nothing comes up. The total file name must be https://librivox.org/uploads/icequeen/onslaughtfromrigel_03_pratt_128kb.mp3. When you save your file in Audacity, make sure it’s saved as onslaughtfromrigel_01_pratt_128kb (Audacity will add the .mp3 at the end when you export the file).

Please upload your correctly named file to the uploader once more, then copy the blue link that appears after the green bar has finished moving across, and paste it into a post here. You must have done this successfully for your 1-minute test, so it’s exactly the same process.

Thanks,
Winnifred

Hi all,

I'll be away from my computer from Saturday, March 30 through Saturday, April 6. During that time, I can put new submissions into the Magic Window, but not run them through Checker (I'll do that when I return).

Cheers,
Winnifred

Thanks, Adam. Just one correction needed before proof listening.

I ran your chapter through the Checker, which tells me that the volume is too high, at 94.8 dB. There's an easy fix for that in Audacity: Select the entire track, then click "Effect > Loudness Normalization," set to -19LUFS and "perceived loudness," then click "Apply." That will bring the volume down to 89-90 dB. Then re-export your file to MP3 and reupload it.

Thanks,

You’ve changed the file name. The one you posted earlier was named correctly. Can you please correct the file name to match that one and re-upload? (Did you re-record? You only needed to lower the volume.)

Thanks,
Winnifred

Hi Brian,

I asked Ann, our MC, to check for your chapter 3 in the folder that only she has access to, and she’s found this one: https://librivox.org/uploads/icequeen/onslaughtfromrigel_03_pratt.mp3 (11:53)

I assume that’s the file you uploaded, but it’s not named correctly (or even as you listened it above). If you don’t name your files correctly, it’s very difficult for us to find them.

Claire, please go ahead and PL this file (and run it through Checker).

Thanks,
Winnifred

Winnifred - Checker came back good! Happy to add the other chapter or two that came in to the MW, run Checker and PL them if you'd like! Just let me know.

Hi Brian,

Welcome to Librivox and congrats on your first recording! You have a very nice tone! There are a few edits needed, which I've listed below from end to beginning times. If you make the changes in that order (last to first), the timing noted should align.

Ending - After the ending there should be 5 seconds of silence. Please add 3 more seconds, as there is only about 2 seconds.
Around 10:15 - stumble on "without deigning to reply to this protest" (
Around 10:01 - stumble on "that showed not the slightest trace..."
Around 2:54 - stumble on "Go to it."
Around 1:24 - omitted not from "if not in New York, then in other places."
Intro - please shorten the silence before the intro to .5-1 seconds max. Currently it's running about 2.5 seconds.

Once any edits are completed, please re-upload the file with the correct file name, and then post it in this thread so I can do a quick spot check. Please also note if the timing has changed as well.
Cheers,
Claire

Yes, please, Claire. I’m only able to be sporadically on here the next couple of days, so that would be very helpful. I’ll be back to my computer on Sunday.

Thanks!
Winnifred

Hello Adam! Can you please re-upload the corrected section (with the volume in an acceptable range) with the correct file name? Once that is corrected, I'm happy to queue for proof listening and provide any feedback as needed.
Cheers,
Claire

Winnifred - File came back OK from Checker.

Hi Joe! Welcome to Librivox and congrats on your first recording. Your style is very engaging and enthusiastic! The content itself was wonderfully read, but I do have one edit that is needed.

Ending - After saying "End of Chapter 19" please leave 5 seconds of silence. Currently it's closer to 15 seconds, so I just need you to cut that down.

Once edited, please re-upload the file, under the same file name, and post in the thread so I can do a quick spot check. Please also post the new run time as well.

Thanks!
Cheers,
Claire

got it will get to it as quickly as I can. Still working on getting the editing down right, lol. What is the timeframe on the editing and returning it to you? I have a trip coming up very soon and will be away from my computer for 10 days.

Well, if you can do it before your trip, that would be best, of course :D You may find it harder to match your voice in the original if you leave it too long.

But if you can’t do it before you leave, please try to do it soon after you return. This project is moving pretty swiftly. Remember to post the link here and the length of the edited recording when you’ve made the corrections. And feel free to ask if you have questions about how to edit. Probably best to re-record the entire sentence rather than just the word or two that needs correcting.

Thanks,
Winnifred
