Killing Time, by Donald E. Westlake (1933 - 2008)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/killing-time-by-donald-e-westlake/

Volunteers outside the USA: Donald E. Westlake died in 2008. This person's work may still be protected by copyright in countries where copyright duration is determined by the author's death date. In Europe this is 70 years; in Canada it is 70 years for authors who died after 1971; and in Australia it is 70 years for authors who died after 1955.
From Donald Westlake, author of the hard-biting Parker novels (as Richard Stark), comes the story of Tim Smith, the local private eye of a small town in upstate New York. He's friends with all the big men in town like the City Council and the Mayor and happens to also have dirt on them. He has no particular inclination to use any of it either, that is, until someone tries to kill him one evening, spurred on by paranoia that Smith will squawk to a moralizing political organization rolling in to cleanup the governmental corruption in town. Now Smith must track down who among his "friends" wants him dead before they succeed in shutting him up for good! (Summary by Ben Tucker)

Prospective PLs, please see the Guide for Proof-listeners.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Ooo, this sounds like a good listen! I would love to DPL if you don't already have somebody lined up.

Got them queued.

And, Hmmm. I *know* I posted earlier that chapters 1-5 are all PL OK

That's the third post today that has mysteriously disappeared. Anyone else having LV hiccups?

Boy, this one moves right along.

Chapters 6-10 are all PL OK

On Chapter 11, I'd recommend Noise Cleaning for the fan-like sound that's particularly strong through the middle portion. Somewhere between 7:00 and 7:20 would be a great place to pick up the noise profile.

Yea, I think my computer fan must've gone nuts for a while. Hopefully the fan isn't as loud on the track now.
