I felt bad that this weekend flew by and I didn't have a chance to listen, but this worked out perfectly: I got to listen to the whole first episode with Gaspar, and now I am so curious what will happen next. Conrad's writing is so cinematic; I could totally imagine this as a movie, scene by scene, and I loved the way he transitioned into the first-person storytelling style too. Very nicely done!

The reading sounded great as always; just a couple of tiny things in the first two chapters:

Chapter 1
1:22 and the vicissitudes (it's got one more syllable in there: vi-SI-ssitudes)
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/vicissitude

Chapter 2
2:39 with alacrity and zeal (not: alicrity)
3:55 of those thirsty men (not: thirty)

Chapter 3
all good!

Chapter 4
all good!

Time does fly by when we're having fun! Too bad this story is so short.

EARTHQUAKE: I never expected that!!! And I love how the storytelling set-up means we know that Erminia is going to get Gaspar Ruiz to do something terrible before this is all over... poor Gaspar!

I noticed two weird phrases that turned out to be errors in the PG text; when I looked up the book at Internet Archive, they made sense there; links to IA below. You can decide what you want to do!

Chapter 5: all good

Chapter 6:
8:29 all absence of cynicism (not: criticism)
9:41 only a short time before (an extra "for" snuck in there)
10:38 this way or that (the text just sounded wrong, and I checked; there is an error in the PG text: the "or" is missing. compare here, top of p. 103:
https://archive.org/details/youthgasparruiz0000conr/page/102/mode/2up

Chapter 7 all good

Chapter 8

3:27 a safe-conduct from General San Martin (PG is wrong again, argh: it is safe-conduct, not safe-conduce, bottom of p. 111:
https://archive.org/details/youthgasparruiz0000conr/page/110/mode/2up
11:43 over our prostrate bodies (not: prostate)

I've never seen so many errors in PG's text. There is another small error in Chapter 9 I think.

Chapters 6 & 8 are ready to spot check:
