Told in the gardens of Araby, by Izora Cecilia Chandler and Mary W. Montgomery
A collection of Persian stories (Summary by Doug Wade)
Source text (please read only from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/73256

Target completion date: 2024-07-01

Prooflistening level: Standard
Prospective PLs, please see the Guide for Proof-listeners.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi, Doug - I'd love to be your DPL on this if you need one.

(You might already have one, since there's not a ~ at the front of the subject line, but I thought this might also be your first solo, and you weren't familiar with that convention yet?)

Hi, that would be delightful! I do not have a DPL, and you are right -- I did not know about the convention. There's probably a line I missed in the instructions. Are there other steps I've missed?

I don't think you've missed any other steps. Your source is from Project Gutenberg, so that's public domain without even looking into it. You just wait until an MC picks it up for you and creates your magic window. Shouldn't be much longer before that happens.

The only thing an experienced soloist might do is to edit the main post instructions portion so that the file name is shorter. For example, instead of the mechanically-entered "toldinthegardensofaraby," you might use something like, "gardensofaraby." Oh, and they'd edit the quote sections so that it only says "Section" or "Chapter" in the introductions. That's your choice, which word you want to use. :)

Hi Doug!
Your Magic Window is in place. Also, Lynette has access to the MW as DPL. As Soloist, you are your own Book Coordinator (BC). Since this is your first Solo, you will need to follow the instructions for first time BC login. For your convenience, here are the instructions for that excerpted from the guidelines for BCs.
Accessing the System – First Time Login

Use this Link to go the main login screen: http://librivox.org/workflow
Click on Login (for BCs & MCs)
Enter your forum username.
Click “Forgot Password” (Note: Your forum password will not work here!!)
You will receive an email with a link to reset your password. Click the link and enter a password and submit the form.
Go back to the main login screen and use the new password you entered above to log in to the system.

Here is a link for more detailed instructions: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Soloists:_How_to_update_the_Magic_Window#Accessing_the_System_%E2%80%93_First_Time_Login

As soon as you do all that, please post here and I will move us to Going Solo.

If there is any problem, please let me know.

Best,
Christine

Hi Christine,

Thanks for the detailed instructions! I believe I followed them successfully -- at least, I see a page titled "LibriVox Management Dashboard", though I'm getting a 404 from the pdf that has the screenshots so I can't compare. Clicking on the id for this project throws a permission denied error as well, but I have logged in successfully, which I think was the goal.

Best,
Doug
