Both recordings were done on Windows using Audacity. First one is with an USB ATR2100 Mic with a foam cover. Second one is done with a Headset connected via aux.

I applied the "Replay Gain" plug-in effect to both of them but otherwise no other editing. I noticed plosives and noise on them.
Any feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to listen to my 1-min test recordings!

Welcome to Librivox, Banabrea!

Your voice is pleasant and animated.

Your first test (with the USB mic) passes the Checker (free downloadable tool to check Librivox technical specs). There's a faint hum in the background (your computer or its fan, perhaps?) It's not significant enough to impair your recording, but one pass of light noise reduction (Effect > Noise reduction) would likely eliminate it. I don't notice significant plosives, but you can prevent even the slight ones by speaking beside, rather than straight into your mic. Your foam cover will help, but won't always prevent these altogether (I have one myself).

The second test has a high level of background noise, and your voice is slightly muffled by comparison. I'd advise against using this headset if you can.

I suggest heading over to the "Readers Wanted: Short Works (Poetry & Prose)" forum to find your first recording. There are lots of short options there in all genres. Let the book coordinator of your first reading know if you want a different name than Banabrea in the Librivox catalogue.

If you have questions along the way, the "Need Help? Got Advice?” forum is a useful place to get answers.

Happy reading!

Cheers,
Winnifred
