Mother Nature is much more interested now (well, it is all about panthers and cougars!)

Greetings -

Chapters 29, 30, and 31 are all PL OK.

If I couldn't have the aforementioned skunk as a pet, either a raccoon or a puma would be just fine.

I remember so many black bears at the dump when I was a kid ... it was a weekly treat to go out there and watch.

I was surprised that Thornton Burgess did not identify the 'big Alaskan bear' as a Kodiak bear (which is what we have always called them). Either way, they sure are BIG!

Next up ... possums.

Longest chapter yet! But all about deer and their appetites (she wrote thinking about the tulips she used to be able to grow but now accepts that they're just deer fodder ... sigh)

The only critters at the dump near me were the rats. Would've preferred bears.

Musk oxen are the next chapter. I've had a musk ox wool scarf for over 40 years and it's the softest, warmest ever.

I remember as a child not believing that so many buffalo could be slaughtered is such a short time and so wantonly. But the photos of bone piles made me believe. Still feel disgust. Glad there were musk oxen in this chapter too.

Greetings -

Chapter 36 is PL OK.

Used to live down by the Oregon Coast. We would have up to 15 elk in our pasture and unfenced portion of our yard. If there were any unprotected daffodils, they would be trimmed down to ground level by hungry elk. A religious commune put in a big garden up in the hills but didn't think that a fence was needed. Later that summer, they were heard to say, "The Lord giveth, and the elk taketh away!" Seems a large number of elk had a late-night banquet.
