Welcome to Librivox, Doug!

You have a clear and animated voice. Your test needs some adjustments, however.

Librivox requires audio files that have a bit rate of 128 kbps (constant) and a volume between 86 and 92 dB. Your file has a bit rate of 109 kbps (variable), and a volume too high at 93.8 dB.

If you're using Audacity 3.4.2, this post outlines how to correct your settings to get the appropriate results. Please make the changes to your settings and re-record your test. Once you've re-uploaded your file here (in response to this post), I'll come back and review it.

Thanks,
Winnifred

I've uploaded a new copy of my test to the server with the same url as before: https://librivox.org/uploads/tests/test_dougwade.mp3

The checker was very helpful -- thanks for the link!

Hi Doug,

Your technical specs are all good now, so you're ready to start recording.

Just a couple of things to watch out for: there's a moderate amount of background noise in your test; it sounds like you're moving about in a squeaky chair, and tapping things around your computer. You'll have to try to keep as still as possible when you're recording, or all of those sounds will distract from your reading. Also, you might want to slow down just a bit; most readers read at a fairly slow pace to make sure they're completely understandable.

Let the book coordinator of your first reading know if you want a different name than DougWade in the Librivox catalogue (in your catalogue name, you can have a space between first and last name, unlike in your forum name).

If you have questions along the way, the "Need Help? Got Advice?” forum is a useful place to get answers.

Happy reading!

Cheers,
Winnifred
