The Bells of Is, by Frederick Brotherton Meyer (1847 - 1929)

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-bells-of-is-by-frederick-brotherton-meyer/

"It has always seemed to me, amid submerged masses, deep down at the bottom of the ocean of human life, there are yearnings and desires for a better life, that ring sadly and perpetually. It has been the aim of my life to listen for these, and where I have detected them, to present the only answer -- the love of God in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Some of the ways in which I have sought to do this during my Leicester life are narrated in this book, which serves to show what may be done in this direction amid the cares of a busy pastorate." (from the Preface) (Summary by )

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Meyer was a contemporary of DL Moody and had a long career as a pastor in England. Until I found this book, I didn't realize that he also started a work to help people coming out of the local jail. This book is a series of stories of his experiences in establishing that jail ministry (and several other activities that branched off from that). One wonders how he could be a pastor of a growing church in Leicester, while at the same time committing so much time to the social welfare of the poor of this city.

To potential PLers ... I'm in no hurry to finish this. Total listening time is under 3 hours.

Hi MaryAnn,
This looks interesting to me and would fit in nicely with my current PL projects; if you still need a DPL let me know.

Thanks,
Lora

Lora,
I'd be happy to partner with you on this. I'll add you to the MW and get us moved to going solo.

Hi,
Your recording compliments the text so well! I will leave it to your judgment as to whether or not you want to change the following in section 1:
--at 3:21 "able" should be "unable" in "...to be unable to recall one moment's..."
--at 6:36 "humility" should be "humanity" in "...the enthusiasm of humanity..."

Thanks,
Lora

Thank you Lora.

It will probably be the weekend before I have time to check on your PL notes and make corrections. I appreciate you listening to this for me.
