Hi, Tom!

Hey, in 23 we have one missing line that should come in the gap at 4:30

Here's the passage for you, with that missing line in bold:

- - - - -

De Bracy: “though you may think it lies too obscure for my apprehension. But dream not, that Richard Cœur de Lion(pronounce Coeur-de-Lion) will ever resume his throne, far less that Wilfred of Ivanhoe, his minion, will ever lead thee to his footstool, to be there welcomed as the bride of a favourite. Another suitor might feel jealousy while he touched this string; but my firm purpose cannot be changed by a passion so childish and so hopeless. Know, lady, that this rival is in my power, and that it rests but with me to betray the secret of his being within the castle to Front-de-Bœuf,(pronounce Front-de-Boeuf) whose jealousy will be more fatal than mine.”

Rowena: “Wilfred here?”

said Rowena, in disdain;

Rowena: “that is as true as that Front-de-Bœuf(pronounce Front-de-Boeuf) is his rival.”

De Bracy looked at her steadily for an instant.

De Bracy: “Wert thou really ignorant of this?”

said he;

De Bracy: “didst thou not know that Wilfred of Ivanhoe travelled in the litter of the Jew? — a meet conveyance for the crusader, whose doughty arm was to reconquer the Holy Sepulchre!”

And he laughed scornfully.

Narrator's Chapter 23 is repaired, and 27 is posted:

By the way, the noun "draught" occurs three times in Chapter 27, always meaning a drink but spelled "draught" once and "drought" twice.

thanks, Tom - both in the MW and queued.

I wonder, while everyone I know here in the U.S. pronounces the word "draft," if his pronunciation was "droft," if both spellings were used at that time/place?

Chapters 23 and 24 are both PL OK :thumbs: :thumbs:

(I'll likely lag behind you a bit through the holidays)

Regarding your other note, I wonder, while everyone I know here in the U.S. pronounces the word "draft," if his pronunciation was "droft," if both spellings were used at that time/place?

I've done a single noise reduction, but Checker says the background noise is marginal.

From my Wikisource experience, many "a" letters get mistaken for "o" by OCR because of the poor quality of some of the type used at the period of publication. The suggested "droft" pronunciation doesn't exist in any form or dialect of English I know of. (I've just checked my usual resources.)

If the sense is a drink, I would keep to the "draft" pronunciation—unless you want to use the Scots "draucht".
